Just Did Something Stupid...advice Please

Recommended Posts

Im 2.5 weeks post-op and just hungry. I made a super bad choice and now I'm scared. I ate a few teaspoons of creamy Peanut Butter. I know I'm not supposed to have solids, but at the time, it sounded like a good idea. I'm scared because I feel kind of a heartburn feeling. I can swallow, but I don't want i because I don't want to create more problems. Have I hurt anything? Just afraid because I know the band isn't quite set yet. Didn't think about the weight of the peanut butter.

im not a medical person either, but i dont think you hurt anything either. i know i cheated at 21/2 weeks too. I couldnt stand another liquid so i ate a little tuna mashed up with a little mayo. heaven !!!!! if you had a big meal i might be concerned but i doubt if a bite of pb is going to hurt that much.

I'm sure you are fine. That burning happens to some people with certain foods (like Peanut Butter for me) or it is just trying to get that stuff down. Just swallow and get it down. I think most people eat before their recommended date because hunger wins :). I did the same thing a few weeks after surgery but it was a boiled egg and I thought thats soft. The center was so pasty it felt stuck and I hit panic mode. It's ok we are all human.

Don't sweat it! I advanced my diet a bit quicker than what was recommended and was totally fine... Usually after two weeks you should be on a semi-soft diet? That would include Peanut Butter :) Just eat everything slowly, chew well, and in moderation and you will be just fine.

I don't think you hurt anyting. I do however congratulate you on feeling bad for not following the rules. I was moved to mushies at week 3 so you should be fine. One bit of warning. After I was healed I took to eating honey roasted Peanut Butter by the spoonful because I figured it was Protein right? Huge food problem for me. Peanut Butter is full off sugar which is why I was enjoying it so much. When I noticed the peanut butter jars piling up in my recycling I realized I had to stop.

My advice would be to try PB2 which is defatted peanut powder that you mix with Water. It can be used for a lot of things and is great in Protein shakes. Shipping is a flat rate so it's better to buy several jars and store it. Comes in plain and chocolate flavor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
