For 5 months, I've struggled with eating too fast. Sometimes I'm awesome and eat really slowly and I feel great throughout my meal. However, sometimes I devour my food. Up until this last bandfill it didn't bother me at all to eat quickly, but this one I just can't eat quickly anymore. So, my question is - what are some tricks to reprogram myself to eat slower?

I appreciate your help!! :)

THis is my biggie now too- I have "trained" myself to not drink with meals. I have been thinking bout this for me- and I think first I will count to myself when I chew- maybe 20 chews? And while chewing put my fork/utensils down, then wait a mo then start again. I have always been a really really fast eater, it runs in the family- you should see my dad!! One of the learning curves we face, I guess.

I have also been told there is an ap for phones called "slow eater" or something like that. It dings when you can have another bite.....I think I plan to give it a try.

I use a small fork or spoon. Put your utensil down between bites. The timer thing might work for you if you're really having trouble. If worst comes to worst and you're at home get up between bites and walk around!

The trick for me is to not let myself get too hungry. If I'm ravenous I tend to eat way too fast, despite the dangers.

Live and learn.... it took me a while but I rarely eat fast anymore. Every fill I felt like I was starting over. After 2 years.... I think I have finally learned. Altho.... I haven't had a fill in over a year so who knows. If I get another fill I might have to learn it all over again!

Good Luck!

Don't mean to sound coy(the live and learn thing) .... all the above tips are great suggestions, I tried many of them and they definately helped. Eventually, I have learned to s l o w d o w n.

I too have that problem, but when I do eat too fast I sure pay for it, and not in a good way. Just had my 4th fill today .50 cc so i know that i will have to be really careful now.

You will slow down when you find out why you have to. Until then it doesn't matter how hard you try it doesn't really sink in. When I have some restriction I eat slowly because if I don't it hurts or I get stuck. ATM I am struggling to eat slowly - I am in the process of having my fill slowly put back in and have no restriction. I eat just as fast as I did preband and it is not because I am trying to - it just happens.

Honestly, I didn't slow down the way I should until I hit the Green Zone and found out (the hard way) that taking small bites and chewing like crazy was no longer optional. I learned to slow down pretty quick after a couple painful stuck episodes.

I find eating EVERYTHING with a fork helps. I even eat sandwiches with a fork so I don't get too big a bite on accident. I try to make my bites the size you'd feed to a toddler- very small. This all helps me to really slow down and be aware of what I'm doing.

I put my utensils down between bites, I only use a teaspoon if I am eating Soup or other foods that need a spoon. But as others have said, I really didn't get the whole eat slowly thing until a major stuck episode last week. I had a later than normal lunch so was very hungry, gulped down the first two bites, and then couldn't eat for 24 hours. It was a painful lesson to learn!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
