From what I've read, caffeine can increase your appetite. However, this is not the case for me. I don't deny myself caffeine 'cause love coffee, lattes, etc.

Another consideration is whether it remains a zero calorie mild stimulant or the user turns their cuppa joe into some kind of high fructose flavored sugar enhanced speed-ball condiment~dessert with plenty of calories from dairy fat added too...
I'm in the zero-calorie club. :) I'm a Splenda girl. :)

I notice that caffiene, specifically coffee spikes my insulin and I'm really hungry an hour after drinking it.

The lap band nutritionist I met with told me that they caution against caffiene because you have to then sip on even more Water throughout the day to make up for the Water loss, as caffiene is a duretic. Becoming dehydrated is an issue.

Guys do you call drinking lattes a caffeine consumption???

I used to drink 5 cups of BLACK coffee, not the Dunkin Doughnts kinda of black coffee, but European black coffee (sort of like esspreso). And it had killed me over the years (although I enjoyed it):biggrin1:

I know that caffeine gives you lots of heart burn, stomach acid, espically if consumed with no food before, and it dehydrates you A LOT...just as leener said

Quit the caffeine, trust me its better to quit it, plus you will never have to use those sleeping pills again once you do:sorry:

Coffee/lattes/etc. do not keep me awake. I can drink one and fall asleep 10 minutes later. Please don't lump everyone into the same category. Everyone is different. :)

Sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. Jack, you are a funny guy :)

as for coffee, I quit off it for about a month after surgery, and weaned myself off before surgery but am back to my 4 cups before noon schedule now. Doesn't bother me at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
