Welcome Jenbass! How has your post surgery life been so far? I was banded on 5/29, so you are ahead of me!

Thanks Sleepyone405! Welcome to you too! Well, yesterday marked 3 weeks Post Op! Can't believe it. It took me a lot longer than I thought to feel back to normal--about 2weeks. At about day 10 was the beginning of the turnaround for me. I had a hiatal hernia fixed during the lab band surgery and that really made for a more painful recovery for me. My surgeon removed the 2cc from my band 1 week PO so it would relive some pressure for me. It definitely helped so I could actually drink and breath a lot easier. Since my surgeon thinks I had quite a bit of swelling I am still on full liquids. Waiting till after week 4 for oatmeal and cream of wheat. I never thought I would crave oatmeal but I can't wait. Not sure if I'll ever be able to eat Soup again. My first fill is June 28th so I am looking forward to that! Sorry for the rambling....I hope you are recovering well.

I am doing much better. I finally turned the corner yesterday, about 10 days post op. It was a long ten days though! My band is empty, as my surgeon won't add Fluid till July 5, which works fine for me. Right now I don't know what hungry feels like (other than head hunger), so I'm not eating much. For that matter, I'm not sure what full feels like either! I just keep meals around 1/2 cup and most time don't finish that. I'm pushing Protein though and still drinking the shakes. That is helping me regain my strength. I go back to work Monday, so I have two more days to get some stamina back! In the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy not being hungry and not even worrying about food. Something VERY new to me! Figure each day with little to no appetite means more weight sliding off :)

Hi everyone, I just joined this group today, my surgery was May 21, 2012. I kept seeing the groups people are in and, duh, realized I could join one too!

I was lucky enough to have some restriction from the band alone and lost 40 lb but I no longer feel the restriction so I'm planning to have my first fill today. Last month the nutritionist and the PA said I shouldn't get a fill since I was doing OK but that has now changed. I hope it doesn't hurt - I am a total wimp about needles.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here. Debbie, would you please add me to the roster for May 21? Thanks.

Hi people of May banding. I was banded on May 16th 2012. Today is July 25th 2012 and well im down only 38 lbs to my disappointment and I have had 2 fills. My 3rd fill will be August 2nd and just feeling a lil sad because I am really trying hard to do the things I need to do. I dont feel like I am a "NORMAL" bandster because i can eat whatever I want to( I dont) but I could.I drink just fine and I have not got stuck yet. I just feel like I still cant relate to anyone else cuz everyone has things going on that I feel like Im missing out on.ex.being stuck,PB's,etc. If there is anyone else out there please let me know that is in this same boat as me.I know its strange to want to feel these diffrent things but it seems to me that its a band normal that I havent had. plus my weight loss is sooo slow or have you other May bandsters lost about the same. Thanks for listening.Lisa

Hi Lisa. You are doing fantastic! Your experience is perfectly normal. I've only had a couple of stuck episodes, when I have eaten too fast, but I've never PB'd or vomited due to the band. Believe me, you do not want to get stuck! The weight loss seems slow to you but really, 38 pounds in nine weeks is quite a lot - that's just over 4 pounds a week when they recommend one to two pounds a week. Keep up the good work! We are at about the same place loss-wise and I feel that I am at a plateau. The first 40 pounds came off fairly quickly but my scale is not moving. I just had my first fill yesterday and am trying to see if I have restriction. Lots of people on this site remind us that this is not a sprint but a marathon and I am trying to learn patience but it's hard. I want to be done tomorrow but I realize that's not going to happen. All we can do is keep trying and keep following the program because it actually does work.

Thanks Daddy yeah I think alot of my problem is not having patience.I have had any stuck PB's and I was worried that Im not eating the right things or sumthing. But I guess I can say Im just lucky not to have had any of these things Yet!!!I get a plateau sumtimes but then it kicks back in.Just wanna be doe tomorrow too but I guess this is a lifetime journey so it will never be done!!!lol thanks again for responding. Lisa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
