I had my band placed in 2007. I was doing great until I quit smoking in 2009. I gained almost all my weight back and wasn't following my diet. Just as I was ready to get going again, I found out I was pregnant and had a baby in October 2011. Since then I recently was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. I will go 2-3 days where I can't eat anything or it gets stuck and I throw up, but sometimes I throw up and an hour later can eat just fine. My band is completely open, because I wanted to get my health problems diagnosed before I started working on weight loss again. We thought that some of my swollen lymphnodes was causing constriction on my esophagus. I had an upper GI and it shows that my band is displaced and is at the gastroesophageal junction. It also shows that there is some distention of the distal esophagus and intermittent brief delay in passage through the junction. I am an RN but I can't seem to wrap my head around all of this. I don't know if it has slipped or what? I'm scared, ashamed and angry that this is happening. I feel like a failure. I know I need to go to the surgeon, but I am hoping that if any of you have had this or knows someone who has, please please please help me to understand.

Sounds like your band moved up and you no longer have pouch? I've heard that bands sometime need repositioning. I hope you find the answers you need.

It sounds like you are trying to interpret your own results instead of waiting for your specialist to interpret them for you. We all know how dangerous Dr Google can be ( although he is helpful sometimes too). I would stop stressing and wait util you see your Dr , which presumably will be soon, and then ask him all these questions.

If I am wrong and this is the info your Dr has given you then you need to go back to get him to explain and to tell you how he is going to fix it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
