I thought I would post a few reasons why I decided to make this journey in life. I'm not banded yet but hopefully I will be in a few months. Share your reasons if you would like. I have never told anyone any of these.

But I decided to get the Lapband so I can...

-Wear horizontal stripes.

-Wear a shirt with an x in front of it.

- have my husband pick me up for a great kiss

- Not being the biggest person in the room

- wear my wedding ring again

-stop having to buy clothes online

-Fit into my standard bath tub

-sit in a standard chair and not feel the arms digging into my side.

-Not feel the bounce of the car when I get in

-stop stretching out my 3x shirts after washing them.

-stop having to buy men's belts.

-go out to eat I not feel like people are watching everything I eat.

- get people to stop feeling sorry for me.

-have my queen size big to feel big enough for me and my husband.

- be able to run.

- not get gestational diabetes

- run and play with my future kids

-stand for longer than 20 mins without my back hurting

- get rid of this extra chin

- do I can be a better nurse

- be happy and healthy

And much more

The list we need to print out and look at each time hunger or the wrong foods are calling our name! Here's a few of mine:

I want my kids/grandkids to know me as thinner.

I want to be healthy, and not get diabetes like my mom and younger sister.

feel better about myself.

I no longer want to miss out on things because I'm embarrassed by my weight.

buy regular size clothes again.

cross my legs, comfortably.

wear shorter sleaves, capris, or shorts again, maybe even a swimsuit.

wear something other than blue, black or brown pants.

have energy again and do things I've put off for a while now.

and the list goes on.......

My reasons

Because I have Multiple Sclerosis and I need all the physical advantage I can get to fight it

So I don't get diabetes

So I don't get high blood pressure

So I can live long enough to be a grandma someday

So my kids won't have the "fat mom" anymore

So I can sit in any chair without worrying if I'll fit, or worse, if it can hold me

So I can sit in a booth at a restaurant

So I won't avoid public places because I can't take everyone staring at me

So maybe I'll get a shred of self esteem back

I decided to get the surgery because:

I need to be around for my sons (their Dad died on Christmas Eve 2011) and at 16 and 24 I am the only biological parent left.

I don't want to end up with diabetes

I want to feel good when I see myself in a mirror.

I don't ever want to hear another person say "you have such a pretty face if you just lost a bit of weight"

I also don't want anyone to call me a "big girl or plus size" again. I hate the word "plus size" who thought of that?

I want to go up the stairs and not get winded. My cardio health sucks!

I want my husband to be able to pick me up and carry me over the threshold for our 2nd anniversary next April. (he couldn't do it on our wedding night) Maybe he needs to start weight lifting anyways! LOL

I want to be called skinny before I die!

I most of all I really want to look on the outside how I feel on the inside!

I live in Kuwait and I have been wanting to do this since I got here in 2008. My soon to be husband wanted me to do this for the right reason. This is for me and only me. To feel good about myself and enjoy wearing cute clothes. I recently got banded less then a month ago. I am full of engery and motivated to work out at least 2 times a day. This descision have changed mine and soon to be husbands life style. Living life with no regrets!

You guys reminded me of a couple others!

Be able to sit in a plastic lawn chair and pray that it won't break on me!! lol

Want to be rid of the word "obese"....hate that word!!

Not ever hearing the word "but" after someone says I'm pretty....although I don't expect that so much anymore since I'm 60 now! lol

Be able to go up stairs or a hill and not be ready for CPR! lol

To be comfortable in my own skin, to not be exhausted all the time, to not have to wear a sleep apnea mask to bed ( how romantic !)to be healthier and stronger, to not have old aquaintances looked shocked at how much weight ive gained, to look attractive and wear cute, stylish age appropiate clothes, not old lady cotton stretchy stuff that so nicely showed off my double chin and big tummy. Ummmmmmm, oh yeah, i also want to ride a horse, go running without gasping for air while i wear cute running outfits. I could go on but you get the picture.............

To not be afraid of doing thing, all things like horse back rising or rides at parks or sitting on wooden benches. No fear of people telling me I won't fit.

Omg if I hear one more person say to me your face is pretty... If you just lost some weight...

Ugh so rude! It's a backhanded compliment for sure!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
