Hey guys! I'm so glad I found this site. I'm Rebecca and I was banded a week and a half ago. I'm about halfway through my liquid diet and getting bored.

I'm mostly drinking Protein Drinks, Water, iced tea and broth. Any suggestions? Liquifying foods sounds unappealing to me.

Thanks!

They told me nothing thicker than what fits through a straw. Jello and pudding (even sugar free) were on the no list. Popsicles are a great idea, though. Thanks!

Congratulations on your surgery Rebecca!!! :D

Wow a week and a half on liquids only? I only had liquids for a week and then I was told to go to puree foods and my doctor said to just cut meats into tiny pieces and chew chew chew! I know all doctors give different directions, considering that every book I have read gave different time frames on the Post-Op diet.

One of the things that really helped me during liquids only was beef and chicken bullion. Popsicles were great too! I also had Arctic Zero ice cream. My doctor also allowed apple sauce during the liquids only week.

How much longer do you have on liquids only before you move onto puree foods?

I was on liquids for 10 days before and 3 weeks after (so 8 more days). Then 3 weeks of purees. The place I had mine done recommends that for all patients.

I see so many people moving past liquids! I'm jealous, but my scale is moving quickly (19 lbs so far) so I guess I can manage.

Hi Rebecca and congrats on joining the banded ranks!! I was banded on April 16th. My Doc had me on Clear Liquids the week after surgery and now I am on a puree until may 8th. I am not a fan of the puree stage but I am doing what I gotta do to get through it. I am down 28lbs so far since surgery. Looking forward to solids again and my first fill.

Good Luck!!

Congrats! I was banded on 4/17 as well. The liquid diet was very hard and I hate having to go back to it after adjustments - at least, I've only had 1 adjustmnet thus far.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
