Hey! I was banded almost 1 week ago & even though the first few days were rough, I am now feeling back to my old self. I was wondering how long most people took off from work? I took off a week thinking that was more than enough, but decided that maybe I should have taken longer. I am a nurse & am on my feet 10 hours of my 12 hour shift. Is it just me or is recovery taking longer than expected?

I felt like mine took longer...I had other stuff done as well (2 hernias and adhesions removed) but even today at almost 6 weeks out I still get a little discomfort around my port site and sometimes strange random pains.

But all in all after about 3 weeks and (some real food) I did start to feel better. I guess everyone is different.

i was out only 3 days but i work in an office. Just be careful not to push especially lifting.

Good luck with your journey. I am 10 weeks post surgery down 51 pounds and feeling better than ever.

I also had a hernia repair, which I didn't know I had. I had an EGD a month before surgery that didn't show one. I think the repair of that is what has slowed down my recovery. I guess I was being too optimistic about the recovery time. Best of luck to both of you!

I too had a rather large hernia they didn't see that was repaired. I was banded 4/20 and worked from home last week (lucky to have a job which is on phone/computer all day). I felt decent all week but I think it would be rough to do your job on your feet. This weekend 1 week post op). Has been more tiring as on feet most of day taking care of kids. I think on such low cal diet if you are on feet you will run out of energy . Now on a little more food as of yesterday feels like a little more energy. I think another week you'll probably be up to it. I wish I could get more rest but two young active kids on top of full time job isn't giving me much time. I appreciated the day in hospital (am amazed at people going home after 4 hours... I was ready at 24 hours but 4 would have scared me).

I was one that went home 4 hours after. It was rough. My husband took off the full week bc we have a houseful of kids, one being 9 months and weighs over the 20 lb limit for lifting. I wish I had been a little more informed about recovery pain. I definitely agree it has a lot to do with the decrease in calorie intake. That was a huge shock to this body! I go back to work Tuesday, but only for 1 shift, then I will have 3 more days off. Hopefully the one day doesnt send me over the edge! Haha!

I was told if I had surgery on Friday I could be back at work on Tuesday. Im not sure about that. My dr removed my gall bladder due to it being inflamed ao not sure if that prolonged my recovery or what but when Tuesday came around I was still relying on my pain meds like clock work so I figure I just needed to take a week off so I did and glad I did so when I went back to work I was good. Just dnt rush your recovery thats awesome that you have your husband there to help. Just stick to your dr instructions and you will do great. try not to over due anything. But walking is good so as long as your not lifting anything you will be ok. I was banded on 3-23. I have a 2 1/2 y/o son and thats good you have kiddos they will come in handy when it's time to exercise trust me. Congrats on starting your new life.....

I got banded on 4/23 and was off all week. Today is the first day in feeling good enough not to take pain meds. I so don't want to go to work tomorrow :( especially since I also got a cold! Sneezing is so painful :((( but of course I feel guilty taking more time off ....

Hi,

I was banded on 4/5/12 and I also had a small hernia repair. It took me almost 2 weeks to feel back to normal. I still have some pain at my port site - nothing major just feel like it's pulling. I felt very weak until I was able to eat more. The 3 rd week I was able to eat fish and I'm thrilled. I was not really hungry but I knew I had no energy due to lack of food. I am sick of sweets! So the Protein Shakes etc..we're getting old. I really didn't feel like they were helping anyway. Real Protein has been the best. Anyway! Probably more than you wanted to know. I hope all goes well for you!

Angie

Ps. Make sure to take your Vitamins. I've recently purchase B12 disolvables and that has also helped.

I was also banded on 4.23 and I'm a nurse as well. I was told by doctor not to return to work since I am on my feet all day as well, until after my follow up appointment - which is tomorrow. Feeling pretty good today. Still some soreness around port area, and I get tired if I'm moving around too much.

Take it easy today and best of luck!

Thanks! Funny thing is, my doctor didn't give me any recommendations for returning to work. My patient advocate told me to expect a 2-3 day recovery period....yeah, right! I couldn't imagine working after 2-3 days even if I had a desk job! I don't have my follow up appt until 5/24 when I get my first fill. It's crazy how different each doctor is. Best of luck to you as well!

I was banded 4/20, took Monday off and was planning to go back on Tuesday. Didn't feel up to it so I worked from home on Tuesday (glad to have that option). I went back on Weds but I have a desk job. Last week all I did was go to work and come home and relax, husband and kids did all the chores :D I didn't have any energy at all. I was able to go for my nightly walk though. It's getting better this week. Good luck to you.

I was banded on 4/13/12 and took a week off work afterward. Last week & this week, I have been doing office work in a "light-duty" status since I'm in law enforcement. I was advised because I wear a lot of equipment (i.e., gun belt, ballistic vest, etc..) to take a total of 3 weeks off before taking on the physical aspects of my job.

I'm 15 lbs lighter thusfar so I'm hoping those uniform pants are a little less snug! :D

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
