3 Weeks Post Op And Gaining!!

Recommended Posts

( Edit- this is for after 6 weeks, some of the foods many not be acceptable for your surgeons diet).

It is important to get Protein 70 to 80 grams per day so you will heal and lose the weight. Cottage cheese, peanutbutter, whey shots from Walmart and riotta cheeses all work. I also did fish, tofu, eggs, refried Beans and greek yogurt ( has tons more protein than yogurt). You can also get Wheat Germ in the Cereal isle. That has 3 grams per serving and helps with Fiber. I would have a Unjury shake if I didn't eat properly or got stuck etc.

I need to revant my own diet, so this is just some food for thought.

Every surgeon has a different post-op diet to follow and every nutrionist has a different daily diet they want us to follow. I didn't have real food until 6 weeks after surgery. Trust me, it was a LONG six weeks lol. I was freak'n starving!

My nutrionist says at least 60g of Protein, no more than 125g of carbs, and no more than 20% fat. Very different than a lot I see on here eating very little carbs. Just another example of drastically different offices think when it comes to WLS.

But it also is further proof that at the end of the day, we all must do what works best for our specific body and lifestyle, regardless of what anyone else says or does.

I sooooo agree! Thanks for the advice....

For the first 6 weeks you are healing, TRY not to get on the scale. HA! I know, I know. A band does not proving much weight loss immediately after surgery. This is NOT gastric bypass where patients lose the majority of their weight shortly after surgery.

Your body has been through quite the trauma of surgery, you might have just a little bit of fill in your band, if any, from the surgery. If you are losing anything right now, it is due to YOU. Ok, anything you lose with a band is due to you, but it sure helps to be in the green zone.

My surgeon told me not to worry about my weight until we started doing fills. If I gained a few, he didn't care, he said. He said that he knew I'd done tons of diets over the years and they don't work, why torture myself now with an unfilled band? Just wait until we get it adjusted right and THEN we'll talk about weight loss. LOVE him, by the way! I was banded Feb 15, 2008, I did not start losing until June, after my second fill.

Really, this is a lifetime journey, not a one time event. It's a process. You will get there. To quote my favorite movie, "patience, Highlander."

And I love your surgeon as well! Definitely great advice.. My surgeon just told me that I'm on my own until my first fill!! He was right! Thank you again...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
