Social Situation Help!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

So we are having people over tonight and tomorrow and I'm really concerned about my food intake. I have a terrible time controlling myself in social situations. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid eating poorly or eating too much?

I just had my third band fill which I think is going to put me in or very close to my green zone so I want to be smart.

Try to preplan what you are going to eat if you know where you are going. Avoid the bread basket. Don't wash your food down with alcohol. Eat slowly and focus on enjoying the company.

I always try to do what was said above & I eat something -little-before I go. Like part of a Protein Shake or a piece of cheese. I also try not to drink much b/c it will lower my willpower & I cannot drink like I used to. And, I try to stand, sit, away from the food. At dinner, I have to remember to eat slowly & it helps that I don't want to overdo & get sick with company. Good luck & have fun!

We always have friends over... I mean almost every weekend. I buy either special K or Kashi crackers to dip I'm hummus or a home made dip that I know is healthy. Also we usually grill chicken or steak kabobs with veggies and fruit. As for alcohol I'll have flavored vodka with diet cranberry juice ( 5 calories)

And just skip dessert;)

Have fun!!!

Preplanning and visualization. Sounds silly, but really...picture yourself with a small plate of band friendly stuff. Picture yourself taking small bites and chewing well. Picture yourself being successful! It's amazing what that can do for you.

Remember, it's about family and friends, not the food!

pre plan and always walk around with a bottle (glass) of Water (crystal lite mo or what ever you drink).you cant eat and drink sot cuts out the snacking.

Also mingle.

If you are putting Snacks out put out stuff you are comfortable eating.

Its about the company not about eating. Enjoy your company thats one thing you have to learn. Get togethers are no longer about food.< /p>

Thank you all. I have a hard time syncing up my feelings and my mind sometimes and remembering I'm not living to eat anymore is a constant struggle for me.

Last night went well I drank from my Water bottle all night and kept my hands on it the whole time, so I wouldn't be too tempted to eat the queso my friend brought (I had one small bite, but that was it!). Keeping my hands busy seemed to really help me keep in perspective what I really want out of my band- mainly bc I had to consciously think of taking my hands off the bottle and it gave me time to evaluate.

I'm so appreciative of this forum in the short time I've been using it, it's helped so much. I've been doing it all on my own since December (the closest support group is an hour away and after a long day at work the drive is the last thing I want to do).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
