Question About Starting Solids

Recommended Posts

I don't start solids for a couple of weeks but I've been meal planning and looking up healthy recipes and I was wondering if tortilla wraps are okay to eat. I know to stay clear of breads but are tortilla wraps considered somewhat the same? Is there anyone that has problems with them? Thanks!

I'm a newbie too...actually just had my first fill thursday...so I can't answer for the long term but I can eat them now.

I'm not sure if you are sticking to a low carb diet, if you are you, might want to consider the Ole Extreme Wellness tortillia . there are a few that are high fiber/low carb. with about 70-75 calories/4-8proteins/ and only about 5net carbs!! good stuff.

I found them at kroger and Walmart has a couple flavors as well.

Personally I would stay away from wraps; empty carbs and high calories. Look at the package probably 100-200 cals for one. I use romaine lettuce leaves as a wrap for sandwiches.

That sounds good to me, I'll ask the hubby to see if he can find those. I found a couple of grilled spicy chicken wrap recipes that I would love to make. I love bread so I thought the tortilla wraps might help that craving. Thank you very much for the info!

I don't do low carb. I eat wraps rather than sandwiches. I don't have a problem with tortillas, but I do with soft breads.

Many bandsters cannot eat tortillas, though. I am afraid it will be trial and error for you. :(

I recently discovered those little flat breads - they have while wheat and multi grain etc, great substitute if you're missing bread I think

I'm afraid of the trial and error also lol. I did find a spicy grilled chicken wrap recipe thats only 275 calories for the whole thing, you have to use a whole wheat tortilla but it looks really good. I'm not really a carb watcher but I'll see how everything goes once I can start eating solids. Thank you for the suggestions everyone! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
