Help! Can't Even Sip Water!!

Recommended Posts

In January of this year I had a lapband revision due to a 'specialist' STRETCHING my band when they did a EDG on me. Before the revision I had several problems with even being able to keep liquids down. After my surgeon went in and did the revision he confirmed that it was stretched, so he did something funny with my stomach to make the Lapland stay in place (my insurance didn't feel it was necessary to completely replace it, so after a year of fighting FINALLY agreed for the REVISION) All was well at first after the revision, but now after my third fill on Thursday I am unable to even sip on Water. Every time I sip on water I force myself to keep it down for about 15 minutes and then it makes its way back up. I've tried water, slimfast, and poweraide. It seems like more is coming up than is going down. I know it's just Saturday, but I am already miserable. I'm both thirsty and hungry, yet I can't even drink. I've learned from my problems last time that going to the ER they are just going to make me drink a GI cocktail and then send me home, they never even called my Lapland doctor!! When I went to a regular "doc in a box" doctor they gave me pregnancy test, like that was making me sick or something So, what do I do? I work in a prison and I'm scared to death I might get dehydrated and pass out or something...and that's not exactly the best thing to do in any environment, much less a prison!! Help!! Any advice would be great!!!!

Call your surgeon's office. There should be a service on that can get ahold of him. Explain about the ER. He might meet you there for an unfill or at least speak with ER docs. He might even meet you at his office for an unfill.

You cannot go all weekend without fluids.

Can the infirmary at work give you some IV saline?

No, our infirmary at work is inmates only....it's actually only a minor infirmary at that, anything major we have to take them out to local hospitals I'll give him a call when I get off work and see if he can help me out. Thanks for the advice, I'm beyond frustrated at this moment in time!!

no they would have given you i.v. fluids if you couldn't drink you would have been dehydrated... which would be evident in your blood pressure, temperature etc. do you think you are exaggerating? Go get evaluated -- this is nuts

They told me to go home and drink poweraid, I never even saw the ER doctor, I saw one of his 'assistants' and the regular nurse that took my stats. She said that it was evident that I was dehydrated and that they SHOULD be giving me IV fluids, but the ER doctors assistant didn't think that it was an issue, so just sent me home with instrutions to drink poweraid. It's a very small hospital and they aren't use to people with Lapband issues, and they're very ignorant when you try to tell them. So, no, I'm not exaggerating. However, the more I force myself to sip on Water I beileve some of it is actually staying down. I didn't really even try to drink anything after the first time I got sick Thursday... All day and night yesterday I just managed to get down half a bottle of water and felt as if a bottles worth came back up, where as today I've gotten down almost a full bottle of water already and only feel that about half of that amount has came back up.

Does your surgeon's office have an ER that his practice works with? My doctor was very specific to send me to the hospital I had my surgery done at, because they know the problems his patients typically present with, and more importantly understand the treatment protocols needed for band patients.

I would call his office, they should have some way for you to speak to a doctor or other staff member for emergency coverage. You need fluids - dehydration is serious. I had no idea I was dehydrated when I attended my last scheduled appointment with my surgeon. I was complaining of nausea after being ill for 3 days. He sent me directly to the ER from his office for IV treatment.

Hope you will feel better fast...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
