Colorado Springs-Fell Off The Band Wagon

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery 3 years ago. Lost over 50 lbs in less than 3 months. 3 years later I have gained it all back and added severe depression to the problem. I was too embarrassed to go back to Dr Fisher office. My PCP made a referral and an appt for me a few weeks ago. I got it tightened and am having to really re-learn how to eat. I have been doing ok the past 2 weeks. Lots of vomitting because I am not chewing enough or whatever. Last night I started to eat a steak and rice burrito. It was huge. I knew I'd get a few bites in and have to wrap it up and save it for today. OMG- I ate almost the whole thing. Dr Fisher said I need to learn to eat real food and not just drink shakes. He said that for long term success you need to learn to eat filling foods in moderation. These past two weeks I've been eating lots of Soups and small salads. Also very small portions of real food. It's all I can get down. I hope last night was some kind of fluke. I have no idea what I weigh or what I weighed when he tightened the band. ( I stood on the scale backwards). My pants feel a little loose, not much. However, Dr Fisher also said I should only loose 1 to 1 1/2 pounds a week. I want FAST gratification. So, somedays I am hopeful for success. I HATE being fat. I'm 6ft tall and last I weighed is about 280. I have sleep apnea and take 5 pills everyday. I take Effexor XR, Bupropion, lisinopril, levothiroxine, and a Water pill. For those of you unfamiliar with those it's: depression, depression/anxiety, high blood pressure, hypothyroid, and diuretic for water retention.

I will be attending the support group at Penrose on May 15. This will be my first time.

I too have battled with depression, and I know the relief that comes with the right medication.

I wish you all the luck. Good job at joining the support group, hopefully that helps you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
