Curious About Weight Loss Results

Recommended Posts

Hi all I am new to this and am scheduled for surgery on June 25th. I am just curious to what type of results you get from this surgery. Either way due to health I have to do something but I am curious to how everyone is doing result wise with this surgery. Does it take a long while to get the weight off if you are following what you need to do? Is it a slow process of weight loss? I don't at

all expect miracles overnight believe me i do understand that but I am just wondering if this is a long process to drop weight.

I was banded 10/27/11 and am down 46LBS including what I lost in pre-op. For me, its been kinda slow but I'm very happy with my progress. I know that there are others here that have lost allot faster. My goal is approx 90lbs so I'm halfway there!

I am precisely 10 months out and I've lost 87 pounds. Yea me!! Lots of people on here have lost at a much faster rate than me, but I am very happy with my results. The most I've lost in a month is 11 lbs, usually around 8lbs though. In March I only lost 5 and April looks like just 2! Arrgh!!! I, unlike many, meticulously count every bite I put in my mouth. Every bite is logged. From the beginning, I've stayed under 800 calories a day. No exceptions! In the first 3 or 4 months I was hungry a lot. I stuck with my drs calorie allotment and gulped down a lot of Water to hold off the hunger pains!! Now I NEVER have a hunger pain- EVER!!!! It really is quite amazing! I eat to make cerain I get my daily 65 g of Protein in. I still have to fight my cravings for sweets on a daily basis though. That is the hardest part for me. Hooe this gives you some insight. I do know that many people on here say they never counted calories or any thing, just ate less and the weight melted off. Wow how nice that woukd be. I am 54 and have literally dieted since I was 8 years old!! Great way to screw up your metabolism for life!!!! Good luck to you!!

Lap Band literature says 1-2 lbs per week. I lost an average of 0.75 a week. Very slow. But I was OK with that. I started at a lower BMI, and was not an exercise fiend. It took me 2 years to lose my excess weight, and I've kept it off for a little over 2 more.

almost 120 pounds in 10 months - needless to say i am THRILLED. I'm great about keeping to the surgeon recommended 800 calories a day - not so great about exercise but i'm working on it.

Yeah almost 2 years out here and down 225 lbs. But I am a guy we tend to lose a bit faster (sorry lol). It is all about how much you are willing to put into it, how strict you are about your diet, how well your follow your nutrition plans, how much you exercise, making sure you keep going regularly to your doc to monitor fills etc.

Lots of steps, but DEFINITELY worth it!!

Good Luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
