My doctor told me not take them off. He took them off at my follow up a few days later. It's not an open wound. You won't see anything but the scar that's healing. If your doctor told you to remove the bandage then you should do it. Just do it slowly or have someone do it for you.

Just get 'er done. :) You should only see a healing up line where the port is. You might have a lump underneath, sort of like ... well, took me a while to come up with something...(thanks to my DH!!) it's sort of like that little bottom rib, but generally has a bit more fat over it.

Now that I've lost my weight, my port is barely visible when I stand up. When I was losing, it could not be seen at all. I could always feel it if I pressed on it.

If you have true bandages on, take them off, you want to be sure you are healing ok underneath. If they are steri-strips, they will come off as you shower and wash over them.

Seriously the gross bandages are MUCH worse than what's under them!!! Three tiny little lines with glue on them. The bloody gauze is terrifying, but the wound is nothing... And you can't see the port.

I didnt have bandages. Just this glue stuff holding it together that peeled iff after about two weeks. It was hard to resist not picking it off, but I kinda like that kind of stuff. I take my kids stiches out myself. Love it ;)

I was banded on 4/23. I was told to take my bandages off on 4/25. When i did, I found that there were steri strips under. They fall off on their own. They have been starting to peel, so I assume they will be gone when i go back Tuesday for my follow up.

Are you sure it's the port one? If it is the biggest, most painful one, my nurse at the hospital assured me that is not the port. It is the one the surgeon worked through; the one they put the band in through.

Did you do it yet??? If you want to shower you need the bandages off, you don't want wet bandages staying on the incisions. THAT is a recipe for infection. Be brave, you can do it!

Removing the strips were the worst for me...and that was after two weeks...I remember I almost passed out! But I was fine once it was done!

You probably won't see your port, but will feel it a bit if you press on it. My port didn't stick out until I lost quite a bit of weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
