Hello fellow lapbanders!

I just joined this site and am glad to be here. I started out at 318lbs and had my surgery March 27th, 2012... I actually lost 14lbs in the three days pre surgery on the clear sugar free liquid diet if you can believe it! It has been about 4 and a half weeks and I am now weighing in at 287lbs. I was supposed to get my first fill this week, but my port incision became very infected and opened so I have to wait another week until I am off the the antibiotics :( The first 3 weeks were a breeze and I was barely hungry at all, feeling satisfied with only about 800-1000 calories a day. However, now I am RAVENOUS and could raid a bakery or two :( I have been really good about controlling myself but it is getting harder as my hunger grows every day. I really hope my first fill next week will help! I have been exercising daily (water aerobics!) and I also just began waitressing part time which has helped me burn alot of calories too. Did anyone else struggle with the full force hunger a few weeks after surgery? If so, how did you/do you cope?!

At this point you have to be in control of your hunger. Go to GNC get some hoodia take it 30 minutes before you eat. It takes about a week to get into your system. You just have to try to not think about food at this point and feeling hungry isnt all that bad. How long has it been since you have actually felt that feeling of true hunger? I love feeling hungry even after two years. Then I know its really time to eat and not because I just want too

Do you cover your port when you swim? That could be why it's infected. There are waterproof one-time use bandages you can get. Might help.

Don't know if I have great answer for you. First question when did you return to swimming? My doctor said to wait two weeks. I do agree about using one of the Water proof bandages; ask the pharmacist. I thing they are kept out back.

As to hunger. What stage are you at soft mushies or full mushies? Starting day 15 I could have thin Greek yogurt and smooth Soup like Tomato. At day 23 I could have cottage/ricotta cheese and smooth Soup. I would space out my food to help with the head hunger. So 8 oz soup first, wait as long as I could and then have the yogurt. If I ate everything at once it seemed like an eternity before I got to eat again. My doctor does not believe in Snacks.

Do you have a digitial food scale? If not get one. It is the only way to know exactly how much food you are getting. My doctor never said to eat by volume (ie cups) but to weight my food.

I waited two weeks after surgery and yes I cover the port incision each time I swim even though it is closed up again. I do have a food scale i am just constantly craving more food/feeling unsatisfied with my small portions... I just have to get through this week until I get my first fill which should help!!

I am sorry to hear that judych! It is most certainly tough, I have found that keeping busy as well as keeping only healthy food options in my pantry has helped alot. It is not an overnight thing to lose the immense hunger most of us had pre-surgery, but I think that once we both get a fill (I get mine on thursday) it will get better and continue to get better with more fills! Stay strong my friend!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
