Hello fellow bloggers!

I just joined this site and am glad to be here. I started out at 318lbs and had my surgery March 27th, 2012... I actually lost 14lbs in the three days pre surgery on the clear sugar free liquid diet if you can believe it! It has been about 4 and a half weeks and I am now weighing in at 287lbs. I was supposed to get my first fill this week, but my port incision became very infected and opened so I have to wait another week until I am off the the antibiotics :( The first 3 weeks were a breeze and I was barely hungry at all, feeling satisfied with only about 800-1000 calories a day. However, now I am RAVENOUS and could raid a bakery or two :( I have been really good about controlling myself but it is getting harder as my hunger grows every day. I really hope my first fill next week will help! I have been exercising daily (water aerobics!) and I also just began waitressing part time which has helped me burn alot of calories too. Did anyone else struggle with the full force hunger a few weeks after surgery? If so, how did you/do you cope?!

I kept myself busy! I just try and keep my mind off of food. My husband did the cooking while I was unable to eat and it helped me a lot. Good luck and hang in there. Pure will power during this time but you are on the right track and keep up the good work.

I drink Water ALL the time. I have a bottle with me and sip sip sip all day long. That is what helps me not feel hungry. If you do eat a snack, make it a high Protein snack. Greek yogurt is a great one! My WLS has BBQ protein chips that I LOVE! And Protein Bars, both are made by Health Wise. They are very good.

In the beginning I told myself every time I found myself thinking about eating something that I would walk around the block instead... it worked, I was doing 5 to 7 trips around the block in the beginning. Now I don't think about food at all really, but I go to the Y and walk between 3 & 4 miles a day.

Good luck! You CAN do it!!

Hi I have just joined the web site today, I had my lap band surgery March 16, 2012 and I have lost 17 pounds, I felt somewhat discouraged but the surgeon said that that was finw because I did not have my first fill yet, well I had my first fill Thursday April 26th, I am not hungry at all, I feel really good. The only problem I have is my legs are so bad from being overweight that after the surgery I could not walk at all, I had some injections in my back and that seemed to help, I am going to physical therapy three times a week and it seems to be helping, I can't really walk outside yet to get any exercise yet but that will come again. For anyone feeling that there is no hope, there is for all of us,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
