Tighter Band Caused By Less Water Intake?

Recommended Posts

I was banded in March 2011. Fills every month 6 weeks out at a very cautious rate. Took quite awhile to reach restriction. Last fill was in December of 2011 and finally started to lose after a long plateau (not all the bands fault :).

At my 1 year check-up I had .5 cc removed (had agreed to .25 but the NP had .5 in her head) due to stuck episodes. Admitedly, I was probably too tight.

Here I am almost 2 months later and am experiencing being stuck again on random stuff. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that dehydration can cause band to be tighter.

Has anyone else experienced a fickle band when they haven't had enough Water intake?

Thanks!

Absolutely!!! Also, I find stress does not allow me to eat either.. When what your describing happens to me, I cut back and go on liquids a day or two to let the band calm down.... It helps me a lot! Good luck!

Yes, my band is very fickle. Definitely Water intake plays a part. Stress too. Or if I'm really upset, I just slam shut. Try upping your liquids; I believe it's okay to include Decaf teas in that total if water is an issue.

I would agree that definitely a lack of Water intake will cause stuck episodes. Stay hydrated!!

It's funny, I never thought about Water intake (the lack thereof) contributing to stuck episodes, that is really interesting. I had to have a 1/2 cc unfold recently because of getting stuck with almost everything I ate.. And it did help but wow, am wondering if just an increase in water would have helped just as much....

Thanks Ladies! Certainly stressed right now (work is crazy and hubby is gone for 2 weeks for work leaving me with the kiddos). I'm hoping getting back into my Water routine will help eating. Been stalled now for a couple of weeks and I think it is the lack of "good" calories.

Oh yes! When you are dehydrated, do your rings fit tighter? Mine do. Shows me that my tissues puff-up trying to hang on to every drop of liquid. Your stomach would be the same. That would make your band feel tighter.

My band's tightness changes from day-to-day. I call it a fickle, freakin', foofin' band! But I love it just the same!

If it has caffeine in it, it will have a diuretic effect and does not count toward your liquid goals. Caffeine-free counts, but the majority of your liquids should be water if at all possible.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
