It's ok to be afraid of the unknown, but think about what everyone else is telling you. If you continue on the same path you are on now the consequences are far worse. High blood pressure, diabetes, pain in your knees, lower back pain. I could go on and on! You will be fine, relax and think about positive things! You got a lot of people here on LBT on your side!

I have not gone through the surgery yet but I have gone through 60 yrs of life. And stating that, people can be soooo totally rude! I have heard "helpful" (not!) advise on just about everything in life, from giving birth to having bowel movements~~~(hmmmm, strange those 2 things came to mind, eh?) and believe me, DON'T LISTEN TO THAT BULL@#$%! As a wise man told my hubby before his heart surgery...."Your fondest dreams and worse nightmares never come true."

Good luck lillesday! And please stay tuned in Aug/Sept to calm me down when I am going in!

here's some things to think about. From a surgical nurse point of view. The surgery is less than a hour long in normal cases you have passed all the pre surgical test prior to surgery. Every one says its a go for surgery. yea sure SOMETHING can happen like you get run over going to the hospital.

Now seriously your wieght is holding you back from enjoying the life you want and deserve. Everyone has done diet after diet and yooyooed up and down.before finally coming to the decision of lap band surgery.

If you decide that you really cant do it then here"s what to expect in your future High blood pressure diabetes your legs cant support your weight so you will be wheel chair bound. then you will need some one to physically take care of you

I had my surgery on April 11 and after the first day I hardly had any pain I didnt take any pain meds . As of today I lost 18 lbs. Its no picnic (lol) but I have a goal and nothing will keep me from it

What is more risky? The risk of complications from banding surgery or the health risks associated with continued obesity? This is a very safe surgery and you CAN do this!!

I am about 8 days away... I have freak out moments sometimes. I am scared to fail. I am sad I will never be able to eat as much as I used to... Because honestly I LOVE food. But I know this will be worth it in the end and that there is much more to life than obsessing over food.

It helps me to come on here and read success stories. I also pray if I get stressed out.

You will be fine. :)

I'm sorry to say but I didnt freak out in the least I was absolutely exicted. Maybe cause I'm a surgical nurse it can work for you or against you. The major problem after surgery is your head you smell food you want I LOVE food to but I love me more sooo I took nude pictures of myself (ugh) 3 days after surgery never will share and everytime I think about swerving from my goal

I look at them keeps me on track. I've lost 20 lbs as of today every month im taking a new picture Good luck to you think what you want and go full steam ahead

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
