Can You 'feel' Your Band?

Recommended Posts

When I get the urge to burp or when I yawn I feel a strange sensation around what I can only guess is where my band is. It's making me a little nervous, has anyone else noticed anything like this?

The only time I feel mine is when I drink a very cold beverage and I can feel it funneling through... I have read that some people are just more aware of the band within their body though.

I can't feel mine at all. I do feel the port, but that's it. It's really strange when I read on here about someone being able to tell when their food moves through their stoma and how it feels when their pouch is full. I'm like, really?!?!?!? I can't distinguish any of that stuff!

Jess I can feel mine with a big stretch. Have you had a fill yet? Wait until you get a feel. It was the weirdest sensation.

I haven't felt mine so far but my band is empty so I don't know if that makes any difference or not.

That sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. It's kind of like a painful hiccup.

I haven't had a fill yet, and the band was empty when it was put in. If I'm feeling this now I can't wait to see how it feels after a fill :-P

Does the hiccup happen when you are eating? If so this is a sign to stop and put your fork down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
