You Must Eat To Lose!!!

Recommended Posts

So... I have found that the old saying is true... you must EAT to LOSE. I was banded back on March 15th and got my first fill about 2.5 weeks ago. Even though I do not have much restriction still, I have been eating like I do. I was only taking in about 800-900 calories a day.....BUT I WAS LOSING NOTHING!! I figured I would TRY uping my calorie intake to see if that would help. I could not beleive the difference!!! I am now eating about 1100-1200 calories a day and I dropping weight like crazy AND im not hungry all day long. I guess I just had to see it to beleive it!

What I learned: Don't be afraid to eat, just make the right choices when you do

Jenelle1434, I think a lot of people have this problem but don't realize it. They keep cutting more calories or increasing Protein but still don't lose because they're too afraid to increase calories.

I did the same thing, btw. I was eating about 1000 calories a day, increased to 1100-1200 daily, and have lost another 23 pounds in the past month.

Same for me! Sunshyne068, I struggle to get my calories and Protein in. Many evenings I make an extra Protein Shake with a 1/4 cup of frozen yogurt to finish out my day. I have greek yogurt for Breakfast, lunch is either 4 oz. last night's left over pretein (chicken, fish) + 1/4 c veggies. I have a morning snack either string cheese or 8 oz carnation instant breakfast (with skim milk), whichever is left I have for an afternoon snack, then dinner is 4 oz protein and 1/4 c veggies. I like ranch dressing and hot sauce, so lots if times I dip my meat protein in ranch. (that isa boost to calories too).

It works for me, good luck!

Mis73, so even on days you workout, you eat only 1100-1200 calories? Or do you eat back your exercise calories? I've been netting around 1200 calories a day for the last week and I gained a pound this morning.

I don't work out at this point. I walk when I can. My situation is unique in this regard because I have Multiple Sclerosis, making working out very difficult.

If you're working out regularly and making good food choices, maybe your body needs 100-200 calories more a day than you're getting? I'd play with your diet if I were you. It's the only way to find out what works for your specific body.

Thanks, I'm going to do that. I currently workout 4-5 days a week for 45-60 minutes each day. I just feel my body needs more than I'm giving it and it's fighting me. I'm going to start netting around 1400 cals a day and see what happens....

Thanks and congrats on finding the green zone so fast!!! We are similar in our fills. I have a little over 3cc's and I'm close to the green zone. Probably need one more to curb hunger between meals.

I am having the same problem. I've been working out 5 days a week but the scale is going the opposite way. I was wondering of I should up my calories to see what happens. Suggestions on some more meal ideas would be helpful.

I had the same experience! I lost 7lbs the first week after surgery and then the next week only 3lbs and I was walking every day and only eating about 800 calories! I upped my calories to 1200 a day and I either exercise or waitress (busy 6 hour shifts) each day and have been dropping tons of weight since I upped the calories! I am getting my first fill on Thursday :)

As far as what kind of calories to add, do high Protein snacks! I do half a Protein Shake or a stick of low fat cheese or greek yogurt

I downloaded the lose it app on my phone where I can record everything I eat and it keeps track of calories. It has a bar scan so that you can scan in weight watchers meals or any package food. it also provides nutritional values for supermarket and restaurant foods

If you are increasing calories do it SLOWLY... I wouldn't increase more than 100-200 every 5 days or so... Successful long term fat loss needs to be managed from both sides of the fence (calorie intake and activity export) ... If you are exercising sufficiently and maintaining a calorie deficit you aren't going to gain fat. Your lean body tissue may hang on to more fluids and scale readings typically variate so it is possible to show a gain. Odds are, however, that if you are truly in a decent calorie deficit those gains are not fat gains nor muscle gains but Fluid gains. It's always important to drink copious amounts of fluids, especially Water. In time your body will release those excess fluids and you'll see a quick drop on the scale. It's not at all uncommon to, from time to time, see a 5-10 pound drop from one week to the next. These quick drops are also Fluid related. Every pound you gain or lose is going to be a percentage of fat, lean tissue, and fluids. We just want to keep that percentage as focused on fat loss as possible. It takes about a 3500 calorie deficit to burn a true pound of fat.

Thanks for the advice every one. I think right now since I haven't had my first fill yet, I have to be really disciplined so I don't over eat. But I going to start drinking alot more Water and up my Protein Shake intake and see of that cuts my appetite and gets the scale moving down. I have my first fill this week Wednesday so we will see.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
