Bel12 13 Posted April 27, 2012 One big reason I want to get the band is bc I have major back problems. I'm in constant pain in my lower back as sometimes upper. My chiropractor told me I have disk degeneration and wasn't from being over weight. I'm sure it doesn't help but has anyone had disk degeneration or back issues and it has been resolved with the Lapband? Thanks
AlishaK 5 Posted April 27, 2012 I have degenerative disc disease too. My lower back is where I have the most pain. Even after 3 epidural cortizone injections I was still in pain. However, my spinal surgeon said the exact opposite. He did state that it wasn't ever going to get better, but by losing weight it will relieve some of the pressure off the disc and help some with the pain. I was banded March 7th and I am down 40lbs so far. I am a lot more active now, so my back does flare up more than usual. But I am not taking any more narcotic pain killers any more though because it is not as painful as before. Tylenol is usually enough to take the pain away now. Thanks Ive had three nerve denevations over the years in my lumbar spine. ive got arthritis in my pelvis as well so before lapband i was a mess with my hips lockin and a lot of back pain. ive been banded now about 7 weeks... 7 weeks yesterday and ive lost 17 lbs in weight so far. as a result the pain has gone, the hips are normal so far. im not sure how i will be doing heavier work like gardening.. we will see. im not taking any pain killers at all. no arthritis meds either. Cazzy 725 Posted April 27, 2012 I have worn discs due to nursing for 10 yrs many years ago when we used to lift eveyone manually. Losing the weight has definitely helped my back, i still have issues standing for long periods of time but no where near the trouble i used to have. I still get stiff sometimes and my back is painful on certain days but i find a heat pad is all i need to relax the muscles that hold my back in place. I am working on my abs to give extra strength to my back. I would def say that weight loss will help your back even if it doesnt cure it.
