Hello from fellow 'newbie"

Recommended Posts

Hello - I'm new to group - had surgery 11.18.05 with dr. ortiz/martienez in Tijuana and had first fill on 1/14/06. Have had lots of issues learning to chew and eat slow and still am fighting some hunger and lots of head issues with eating. It's not as 'easy' as i thought it would be. May be ready for another fill (i think i have 2.3cc's) as my eating is increasing and my weight is starting to go up. Weight loss has been very slow and I've lost 8lbs since my fill. My bmi is/was lower then a lot of people so I accept it but wish it was a bit more. This has been quite the experience/journey and I am learning a lot. Thanks to all who have gone before me as your experience(s) help. I can eat All foods if i chew to liquid and can eat pretty early in the morning - many tell me to get a fill bbut i don't want to pb again/more and i do like eating a variety of foods - just smaller portions. However, if I gain another 2lbs - i'm going in! Bless you all! mary

Hey Mary,

Just curious - you were banded in december o5? Do your numbers mean your starting weight and middle number current weight? We were close to starting weight but i haven't lost near as much? Do you mind sharing a little of your journey - how many fills have you gotten, etc. Congrats! mary

189 was my weight on surgery date. 168.5 is my weight as of today. I just weighed this morning to start the HeatherGurl callenge. Check this thread out. If you haven't already. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15503

Anyway, I have had two fills. My last one was on 2/6. I was filled the first time to 1.8cc, and that did nothing for me. My doc then filled me to 2.4cc. I am doing excellent it at that fill. I barely eat anything, and I am full.

I wish you the best. Trust me, the first month I really didn't lose anything. 7lbs total. The rest came off after the 2nd fill.

Hi,

Welcome to LBT. When I first came here I kept wondering and asking about abbreviations in conversations. To make it easier for yourself you might want to check out the “FAQ’s and Resources” Forum. There are a couple of threads about abbreviations which will help you understand what people are talking about. HTH (hope this helps!) and good luck to you.

hello,

congrats on having made the decision and having a date. Thee price sounds good - i paid 9500 + travel expenses and used Dr. Ortiz in Monterrey. I had found less expensive and good quality in Monterrey, Mx but Tijuana was closer and a bit easier to get to. I have to pay 100 for fills but that is for flouro and the doctor's fees are 'free'. keep us posted on your progress - good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
