Realize Band Medical Card

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded on April 16th and a few days prior to that I had what is called Band class where they prep you for the day of surgery. Kind of like an orientation class. Well in that class everyone who was a band patient was told they would get a medical card either lapband or realize depending on what you had done and it would contain the serial number of your band. According to the Nurse who gave the class we should get this before being discharged from the hospital. Well I didn't get it and I forgot about it. I called two days later and they told me a nurse would help me with that when I arrive for a follow up visit a week later. I went in for my post op follow up and no one seemed to know what I was talking about and the nurse who taught the class was not in but a left a message for me.

I am yet to hear back and I am wondering if I am going through all this trouble for nothing? Realizemysuccess.com is shutting down anyway so it's not like I need it to register. Is there any other reason I should push to get this card?

thank you,

Jim

I recieved a temp card when I was discharged and applied for the perm within a couple of days. The card just states the id# of the band, my name, surgery date, surgeon's name and number. It also states the band size and in tiny print at the buttom it states the following:

This cardholder has an adjustable gastric band implanted aroun the stomach to retrict food intake. This device is MRI compatible. Cuastion should be taken when prescribing potentially ulcerogenic medications or performing any gastric or abdominal prodecure. Additional emergency information for healthcare provider can be found online at lapbandcentral.com/er.

Note to restaurants: Please allow this person to order smaller portions, as the amount of food this person can eat has been greatly reduced.

I have not used at a restaurant yet but I will if they deny my a kids or senior meal. ;)

Mine is just a temporary card too handwritten, except for the restaurant stuff. I'd like to know how to get a permanent one also.

The temp card came with some documentation to request perm one. I just logged onto the website and requested.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
