It is so hard. I am on Day 10...still a struggle. Cannot wait to eat some "mushy" foods on Monday. I had my first experiences of nausea. It is not fun. Is that from not eating enough the band or just what?????

I am on day 10 also and I ate some mashed potatoes and a couple bites of salmon. I chewed it very well and everything went down fine. I didn't get nauseous and1 I am feeling much better now that I have some food in me. Granted you still can't eat much, but you will eat again. I went through the depression of not being able to eat also. I think we all go through it. But I just watched a show on TV about a 600 pound woman and it gave me inspiration. We have to remember we did this to ourselves. And we have to struggle some to get ourselves healthy again. Hang in there those of you on your first week, it's the toughest I went through so far. We can do it!

I am a newbie but I can relate to the reemerging fear - "OMG I can't eat things I love!" and "this lack of appetite totally take fun out of eating" - but I just really try to remind myself that it is not so and that once I'm adjusted, I will be able to eat things in moderation and make better choices.

It's funny - I miss things like salad and veggies! Of course I also miss chocolate :) but it makes me feel good missing the "healthy" stuff because it lets me know that I WILL be able to make better food choices.

Thats funny. Im almost the exact opposite. i do miss the chewing sensation thats why im chewing ice. but Im almost relieved that i dont have to constantly make food choices which can be bad or good. I used to wake up and my first thought was what am i going to eat and then plan the rest of my day according to what i was going to eat and what time. Now im not hungry for the time being and I just have to remind myself to get my fluids and Protein in. Ive lost 4.5 pounds. Im on day 6 now

I'm a foodie so I do miss the variety :) but an so hopeful that eventually I'll be able to still enjoy the food in moderation.

I started out in February with 232lb; at my last pre-op appt with the surgeon (prior to the liquid diet) I was at about 230; Its not clear how much I lost inge liquid diet because the scale was different than at the doc's office but I estimate Wong at around 226; as of this morning I am 216!! I'm so psyched!!!!

i also have been hungry. :( and i know i need to be getting more Protein & Water in me, but it's just so hard. i'm debating on making some smoothies, but i'm afraid this isn't really considered a liquid?

also, i am not allowed to take off my bandages until i go for my follow up appointment on tuesday. i haven't really noticed any bruising, but they are getting itchy. - which could mean only one good thing - i'm healing!

hope everyone else is hanging in there!

i love Protein Shakes. i was drinking them and fresh juiced vegetable juice even before the surgery. i think thats been the only thing that has saved me. I dont have any bruising but i did take the bandages off too soon. i just realized that today. 44 pounds to go for me. I cant wait to incorporate excersize. altho they did say not to get too sweaty the first two weeks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
