Going From Clear To Full Liquids Is Causing Me To Gain!!

Recommended Posts

How do I stop this? I can't do clear anymore. It's been 4 weeks and the thought makes me want to cry. Is this normal? Obviously, I'm consuming more calories, but will the trend continue or will it level out?

Don't worry your body will adjust and the weight will come off. Just make sure you are choosing the right full liquids that are high in Protein and low in sugar and fat.

I agree with Tammy. Best wishes for a great weightloss with no (or few) complications. Karen

This is a time you dont really pay to much to the scale, yes choose Soups lower in sodium, light etc..and just do what you can.YOu can not stay on Clear Liquids so just get through this, get on solids, get some fills, eat smaller portions with lean Protein, and this is when the band will actually be working with you..I know it sucks, I know...but its a bigger picture here...you will do it!!

The most important thing right now is to get your band healed in the right place, not actual weight loss. That comes later with your fills and exercise. They give us a post-op diet for a reason, because it's worked well for so many people. Hang in there!

Can you tell us what kind of full liquids? A low fat/cal Tomato Soup is better for you than a cream of chicken. Also are you measuring out 8 oz? I had to use the coffee cups from my dish set because my coffee mugs held twice that amount. How many cals are in the Protein Shakes. The Protein Powder I used was 120, made with fat free milk about 80 so 200 cals. Some Protein shakes esp the premade have significantly more. I really like Premier Brand Ready to Drink from costco 30 g of protein for 160 cals.

Don't worry about weight loss right now, worry about healing and giving your body the nutrients it needs. The weight loss will follow!

Also, are you doing any exercise? My doctor said I should be walking as much as possible post op. At two weeks I was allowed to go back to swimming (which I had done before surgery).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
