Hi. My consultant had said that he might put some in when he fitted my band as he sometimes did. The following morning I was told he has 'primed' it with 4mls. I have a 10mls lapband and the dietician has booked my first 2 fills to happen in May(5th and 31st). She told me that restriction is normally achieved around 7mls. I am self pay and wonder if the prime is done to save on the amout of follow up appointments as I bought a package so fills/unfills are included in the price for the first 2 years:)

Mine is not filled. Surgery was 4/16 and first fill appt is 5/29. Doc wanted to give my body a chance to heal and get used to the band before putting in a fill.

Typically your band is only "primed" or a little insert to keep the filler tube open at the time of surgery. Your initial restriction comes from the swelling around the band and along your esophagus. People are normally filled 3-6 weeks post op. Mine is next week and I have been post-op for 20 days. Until this week I got a lot of restriction from the swelling. I can't imagine if my band was also filled. This week I have been able to eat a lot more and I get hungry sooner than before. However it has not deterred my weight loss. I am keeping it at under 1000 calories a day and I am down 20 lbs in 20 days.

I am also scheduled to have a fill in 30 days(well 20 days now)...Doc did not fill mine at time of surgery....I am getting able to eat food that if I was filled would be an issue... need to stay under the 1000 calorie mark...so far so good..

Lost 10 pounds so far in 8 days...

I gained 6 pounds after surgery...but lost that, thinking it was swelling and the IV fluids.. So if we say that weight and I have lost 16 pounds..

I will take it either way...

Had my surgery on the 16th and my surgeon puts them in empty, which I was pretty glad. I get my first fill on May 15th.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
