Those Of You That Have Been Banded A While...

Recommended Posts

When I was 17, which I am still pretty young but I got down to 150. I am 5'11. While my bmi said I was in the healthy range, looking back I could see my ribs, collars bone and my hips stuck out, but I was still a size 10I don't always think bmi is good indicator. You should go by body fat. Your Dr normally sets a more realistic goal. While we don't want to admit most people who get the lapband won't get down to their ideal weight loss goal. Typically patients lose only 50-60% of their excess weight.

Honestly I think I'm already smaller than I was when I graduated high school. I started gaining I think during my last 2 years in high school. So I'm really not sure what I'll look like. Right now, my goal is 135 (which is right at the high end of a "normal" BMI.) I'm not sure what size that will make me. I'm in a size 12 jeans now. My tops are mediums. I've been working on body fat right now, since the scale doesn't want to play nice, so I think I'm getting more tone and maybe some muscle, so I'm not sure how that will effect things.

I am having the same issue right now. My doctor said that I could stop where I am at or if I wanted to get down a little more I should just do it thru exercise. I have met my initial goal if getting to a size 10, but I still think I would like to do a.little more. I dont think I would go past an 8, I dont think it would look good on me. I am 5'8" and about 169 now. My normal bmi will be at 164.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
