I have banded since November and have only lost abt 5 lbs. I'm totally disgusted! I have a realize band and have had 3 fills with 2cc's at each fill. Will be getting another fill next month. I am now having sme restrictions. Can't tolerate bread and chicken and um vomiting and sliming a lot almost every meal. Seem to be consuming a lot of fruit juice n tea. Any advice?

It does'nt sound to me like you need another fill. Some people have trouble with bread (the only bread I can't eat is cheap white bread). I do however have chicken twice a day. Also the fact that you have to drink your calories is normally a sign that you are too tight. Are you eating too fast? Are the bites to large.

I would guess that your lack of weight loss is due to drinking calories.

I agree with honk...this far out you shouldn't need to drink for Protein and calories. I would suggest you head back to your doctor and see what he thinks....maybe you need a slight unfill.

liquid calroies are dangerous. The don't fill you up so they add up quickly. You need to eat solid food. If you are getting stuck and sliming start by taking really - really small bites. Chew it really good. Put your fork down for 30 - 60 seconds after you swallow before you take another bite. liquids WILL sabatoge your weight loss!

Good Luck... you really should discuss all of this with your doctor.

My dietitian prohibits us from drinking all fruit juice, high calories, little nutritional value.

I would call your doctor asap, dehydration is a real concern. If you are getting stuck, perhaps pureeing your food would help. This far post op, you should not be having these issues, and I agree with others that your band may be too tight.

Reevaluate what you are eating. I was advised to avoid all bread for the first year, another food which often has empty calories and lacks nutritional value.

Hope you feel better fast!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
