if you are from the South, grits... I like applesauce but am unable to eat ground beef... red meats are a no-no for me... when I am having trouble with everything else, though, I can go back to my Protein shakes.. trusty shakes.. you actually get to where you WANT them! lol

I am boiling together some carrots, parsnips, onion and swede for next week. Lentils with onion, any type of Beans cook nice and soft with things like garlic, onion. Rice pudding. I am still trying to get my menu in order since I am excited and scared to try anything besides liquids...LOL.

Get a good food processor and you can mush up anything you're already serving to your family.

I was missing my spicy foods, so blending a Wendy's chili was like heaven for me at that stage. A small will probably get you atleast 2 meals.

When in the "mushie" stage, I kept to unprocessed foods, and pureed everything in the blender. Basics for me were:

Scrambled eggs, homemade turkey salad, chicken salad, tuna salad.

Cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, sweet potatoes, cooked carrots, baby food peaches and pears, and applesauce, all with no sugar added.

I added the fruit to FF SF yogurt. I also was tracking my daily Protein intake carefully, and had usually 2 shakes made with 1% milk daily. I also mixed the fruit with 2% low fat cottage cheese for variety.

I was cautioned to avoid any beef or pork until at least 6 months post op; I have read of far too many "stuck" episodes that happened with beef. I have yet to return to eating either of these meats.

Congratulations on reaching this stage! I remember that after a month on liquids, anything to eat seemed like a banquet, even if it was all pureed...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
