Omg! I Just Screwed Up!

Recommended Posts

I dont know what I was thinking. I just had my first shake since being banded on the 18th. I only had half of it, but still. I am miserably full. To the extent that if I could vomit I would feel better. Since my band is so new, I am concerned that I will damage it. I don't want to cause myself any problems...

Don't want to stretch my pouch. This is terrible. Anyone else do this?

Hooray, you made your first mistake and survived. I'm sure it's one of a huge stretch of them to come! :-) I'm sure mine is coming right behind yours, and hoping it won't be a painful one!!!

How are you doing now? You posted about 45 mins ago, so I assume it has gone down by now but wanted to say I hope you're feeling better.

You'll be okay. Just ride it out and remember for next time : )

Perhaps you drank it too fast? Have you been able to keep it down?

i would think you will be okay, but my surgeon recommended Clear Liquids at yoru stage. You are only less than a week out. what did your surgeon's office recommend? Yes, the liquid is probably too thick. also, I was only able to get, maybe, a 1/2 ounce down at a time, due to swelling.Take it easy, and good luck.Karen

According to my instructions I am on full liquids from 72 hrs out up until my 1week drs visit, which is Wednesday.

I am keeping it down, damn it. Its miserable. But I guess I should consider it a painful price to pay for my own stupidity! I know better.

I'm not sure when I start mushies, but do think the shake was ok just way too much volume.

You'll be fine. A little pan from drinking too fast. If you drank too much too fast it would come right back up.

First lesson......everything you swallow has to be slow and easy.

I'm on same as you but only allowed 2 oz per meal. That makes for a two sip shake! Hang in there.

I was allowed Protein Shakes from the beginning. You should be fine as long as you don't add fruit to them.

Why no fruit???

I add fresh mixed berries every morning, sometimes a banana, etc. Have always done that.

I make mistakes daily. Some are painful, others just emotionally painful. Sometimes I eat something and think "Why did I eat that?". My willpower is just going down hill. I am 22 days post op and already I have come to a stop on my weight loss. Since surgery I have lost a total of 14 pounds and one dress size. I have lost a bit more before surgery. But, I need some will power.

Any Ideas?

Perfectly normal...22 days post-op what did you expect to happen?? Your band is doing NOTHING right now but making itself feel at home.

As far as will power...that's about all you can do. I never had any...that's why I needed the surgery in the first place.

If I had will power I would have been successful at dieting and never been fat!

Totally agree! I am better this morning and at least at this moment trying to remind myself of the mistakes I made yesterday. I am 7 days post op. I only lost 4 pre-op (lack of willpower ) and have lost a little over 9 since surgery.

My screw up yesterday was just the first of many, I'm sure. But I was so disappointed in myself. At least this morning I don't hurt as badly.

I raise my shake glass to you all in a toast to better choices!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
