Impatient And Curious!!!

Recommended Posts

Spoke with my insurance company today (BCBS of Georgia) to see the surgery was approved, they told me that they've only had the papers one week and it takes 4-6 weeks for approval or denial REALLY! Is this time frame normal, should I not call back, and if so when?

Usually there is a max 30 day waiting period for pre-authorizations. My approval came in two weeks.

After two weeks, I figured they had enough time to read through and decide if I could get it or not. I called my bariatric coordinator with the insurance company on a Monday and she called me back on Tuesday to tell me I was approved.

My paperwork was submitted June 4th to insurance bcbs of ma and receives approval from phone call from doctor on June 12th! Surgery is July 2nd, so excited! Honestly, I called the insurance everyday after the 5th. That sounds bad but I was so impatient about it lol they were really nice and now just nervous about what I have to give the hospital on the day of surgery because they have not called to tell me yet! I have 250 deductible but it's met and no copay and they will pay 90%. Anyone have any ideas?

I had to pay $100 deposit to secure surgery and then they submitted to insurance. Of course every hospital can vary, so maybe try calling to speak with someone from Billing to ask how that expect payment the day of.

Thanks stephy! I spoke with several and I was

Told by a lady in outpatient and registration that I would need to pay my deductible unless it is met and they may ask if I can pay anything up front and whatever I am able should be fine she said so hopefully so! I do have to pay the surgeon his 10% before surgery but as soon as they call I will post!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
