How about those of us post op start sharing what was easier than we expected and what was tougher than expected for those who are still pre op?

For me, I was one of the lucky ones who did not have shoulder pain. I also was not in much pain at all post op. So I would say that was what was easier for me post op.

Tougher post op? Trying to time things. When to eat, when to take Vitamins, when to drink, etc. At first I was trying to follow the don't drink 30 min before or 30 min after a meal. Once I realized it's all liquid right now and decided not to worry about this until I hit the mushy phase, it got easier to make sure I got enough of everything in.

a good idea...

i found that the shoulder pain was an issue. it still is, and im noticing, a month post op that the shoulder pain comes when im hungry and when im full... i im thinking that its going to be with me for good. i guess in a way it will re inforce my discipline, which wont hurt. lol.

i found the actual discomfort from surgery was minimal, and i got over that quickly.

hunger is a biggie for me right now... im going onto more solid mushies now but its winter here and i always get really hungry this time of year.

i agree about the carbs being addictive and causing more hunger. No doubt about that. over EAster was a problem for me.

I had some pains in my gut as well after surgery, i guess it was the change in diet. That can rear up again but it doesnt last. its important to have something gentle in the way of laxatives handy even before you have surgery. A major diet change often does upset the system a bit. im just starting to come right and its been a month.

Also, ive found that emotional hunger is a biggie for me. Thats something im going to have to fight for quite a while until my brain is rewired.. lol Thats about it with me. Ohh.... on the positive side, fantastic weight loss the first two weeks, most of it Fluid. the change in my facial appearance and the absence of pain in my feet and lower legs has been just wonderful. it more than stacks up against the other things.

Looking back I think I was expecting to bounce back a lot faster. Glad I took the week off the just relax and heal. I'm 3 wks out now and my only advice is don't expect to lose a ton of weight right off the bat. I have to keep in mind that I haven't had a fill yet so I guess I expected too much too soon with regards to weight loss. I just keep pluggin away and eating properly. I haven't really eaten any breads and so far I've done very well with that. A lot easier to give up than I thought I would. Pain wasn't horrible after surgery just general soreness all over. I only did the pain meds for 32 days so I really can't complain.

Just be kind to yourself. It's a journey, not a quick fix.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
