Removal Of Stitches From Banding In Tj---Help.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was just recently banded in Tijuana Mx, by Dr. Almanza. Everything is going great so far, the surgery went just fine. I had my surgery on 4/12/12 and am ready to have the stitches removed. I am not necessarily wanting to go back to TJ just for removal of stitches. Does anyone know where I can go get my stitches removed in Southern CA? I have called around to different doctors but they are not willing to do it, I went to urgent care today & the doctor there was not willing to either because he said they are plastic surgery stitches?? Any info on where I can go would be very helpful (primarily in the IE)

Thanks all.

I don' have to go to TJ for the fills, I can go here for the fills although I probably will go back for the fills due to the cost $40 in TJ vs almost $300 here!! I am hoping not to have to go back to TJ for the stitches....

What stitches do you have to have removed? My incisions , and I believe most other people's incisions, were glued together. Is this just a Mexican thing?

I wondered the same thing. Every lap band patient I have read about in the last 4 months didn't have any stitches to be removed, including myself.

I had stitches, I had my surgery in Egypt so maybe it's a 3rd world country thing :P

It was the easiest thing, I could have plucked them out myself, however I don't suggest you do that...

I was banded in TJ and don't have stitches, just the glue. I was banded by Dr. Ortiz and it went great. I will be going back for my fills as well. I would call your doctor and ask about it.

Dr. Almanza placed nylon stitches on my incisions, they are small. I know of some people that have had either the dissolving or non dissolving stitches. I am wishing Dr. would of used the dissolving. I did call Dr. Almanza's office & they said it was an easy removal by my Dr. here... just have to find the one Dr. that is willing to touch someone else's work..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
