lovex5 25 Posted April 22, 2012 do lapbanders experience the same Hair loss as those who have rny or sleeve? makes me a bit nervous to think about it since my hair is already really thin.
phatkatblue 45 Posted April 22, 2012 i was wondering the same. i asked my doc about it and he said that Hair loss should not be an issue as long as i'm getting in enough Protein. i have not experienced any more hair loss than i typically did before...which for me is a huge deal as i have been growing my locs since 2004! i can't be fat and hairless!!! highland 168 Posted April 22, 2012 No Hair loss here. Eat your Protein and you shouldn't have any problems.
yellowrose88 43 Posted April 22, 2012 You should be fine as long as you get your Protein. I also take Biotine.
waitingpatiently 250 Posted April 22, 2012 Not a problem as long as you eat protein....those with bypass have issues with it because they aren't able to absorb all their nutrients.
cat lady 10 Posted April 23, 2012 i am 9 months out and have had significant Hair loss. Always had alot of hair but suddenly after about the 4-5 months after being banded.....i noticed i was losing alot of hair especially when shampooing. Talked to dr. about this and started taking Biotin. It seems to have slowed down alot and not losing as much. But I still think my hair is much thinner than it was and don't have much body at all. judych 225 Posted April 23, 2012 do lapbanders experience the same Hair loss as those who have rny or sleeve? makes me a bit nervous to think about it since my hair is already really thin. ive not had any hair loss at all... i did read somewhere that hair loss can be a problem... why is that i wonder?? Is it due to more nutrition??
jackieu 19 Posted April 23, 2012 I always lose a lot of hair but that was even before the band. I have really noticed much of a difference lately but I do take Biotin 2x daily and I believe it does help. Also my nails have always been so fragile and now they are thick and grow long so biotin works for me.

m1aman 944 Posted April 23, 2012 I have noticed my hair has become thinner the last couple of months or so. I was banded 10-03-11. So I am going to ask my lapband doc and my regular doc what they think abou tit. I hope it is something I can reverse.
pink dahlia 2,513 Posted April 23, 2012 I have straight , shoulder length baby fine hair, so i was a little worried about Hair loss too. The weird thing is my hair has gotten thicker and healthier since i was banded 4 months ago ! I only take a multi Vitamin daily so the only thing i can put it down to is im eating a lot more Protein and fruits and veggies, and alot less carbs and junk . So, i guess the Dr.s are right, eat protein, protein, and protein ! god luck !
vlp1968 83 Posted April 23, 2012 I started loosing a lot of hair about 6 months post op. I went to the dermatologist, and he assured me I wasn't going to go bald. He said the body goes into kind of a shock from rapid weight loss. it stoped a few months later.
byrd 28 Posted April 23, 2012 I lost all my hair, while taking Biotin....4 1/2 months after surgery, it has just started to grow back veru slowly
JustDoIt130 369 Posted April 23, 2012 I was about a month out of surgery when mine started to fall out and break off. I get in all my Protein, so didn't know what was up. I'd had other surgeries and didn't have my hair fall out. I started taking about 7000 mg or whatever the unit is of Biotin and I'm almost back to normal. Certainly not the hairbrush fills of hair I was losing!!
lovex5 25 Posted April 23, 2012 i need to start taking Biotin again. i lost a lot of hair after my last child was born in summer 2010. it seems like it just stopped last summer but my hair is still really thin. i'm curious if it would help to cut my hair? i've been considering going short and now may be a good time. i appreciate everyone sharing their experiences!!
