Results of Upper GI

Recommended Posts

Hello!!

Just wanted to let you all know the results of my Upper GI today. Well thank God there is no slip, I have developed some major acid reflux, there are no leaks whatsoever, but I’ve come to find out that my band is not where it’s supposed to be. It was placed way too high up according to the doctor who did the test today. She (the doc. Who did the testing) seems to think the problems that I am going through with all the band is definitely caused from the band being placed too high up. It’s nowhere near the place by the stomach where it is supposed to be. So I will be talking to the doctor about this to see if he could fix this problem for me. She said I will continue to have these problems if the band is not properly placed. So I’ll have to wait to see what happens. She said I stopped losing weight because it’s like I don’t even have a band. Which I agree with her because the only way I do know that I have a band is when they fill me and I get nothing but pain and then I have to be unfilled to stop the pain. So at least at this point I have a definite answer as to what’s going on inside of my body, I’m relieved, but I’m really upset with the doctor at this point. So we’ll see what happens!!

Thanks again for all of your support,

Jo Ann

I hope so too Alex!! I go next thursday to see what we can do to resolve this problem and part of me is NOT looking forward to it. It was hard enough to convince them that something was wrong now I have to go to him and tell him you screwed up!! LOL!! It will be interesting to say the least!! Wish me luck!!!

Good luck.I hope your dr takes this seriously.:)

If you know anything about my "history" I have had the band placed and it also showed proximal displacement from day one......meaning it is placed to high....I get the most horrible reflux, heartburn, pain and backpain (behind the band) spasms in my esophagus....ect ect ect...

My dr refused to do anything saying that is the new way they band to prevent slippage....short and long,I have had this band for 10 months, live with a lot of pain and heartburn, reflux back ache....am always scared of erosion.....feel the band squeezing the daylights out of my insides all the time......I sometimes now feel as if my esophagus must be dilated because everything sits on top of the band but I dont BP anymore.Anyway,I will have to have the band removed soon.....

What I'm trying to say is I know how you feel and make him fix it...:angry ..it is a very big effort living like this...every day.

Please keep us updated as to what your dr says.......

Thank you everyone for your responses!! Trust me, it may have taken me over 4 months for them to finally start believing me, and I'm not going away until it's made right, whatever the outcome mayb be. Everyone knows their own bodies and knows when something is wrong. And nothing has been right since a month or so out. I demanded to have an appointment with the surgeon, not the nurse practioner and I will be seen next thursday to go over the results of the test I had yesterday and hopefully will leave there with some satisfying answers. I will keep you all posted as to whats going on!! Thanks so much for the support!!

Bless your heart.

I'm sorry this happened but I'm glad you're getting some answers as to what's going on. I have (another) Upper GI scheduled for tomorrow - I know for sure I have the old school band placement technique (peri-gastric) because that's what was done back in '01 when I got it. Now we know that method leads to more erosion and slippage and maybe it's why my original surgeon is so gun-shy about continuing to work on me.

Fingers crossed that you get this addressed ASAP. Always trust your gut instinct, right?

Happy Band Journeys to all...

Jo Ann, Isn't it so frustrating to be told nothing is wrong when our bodies are telling us in no uncertain terms that something is!! Pain and vomiting are our bodies' main ways of communicating. My surgeon just would not believe me that something was wrong, and now I find after the band is removed that I have GERD, and my esophagus is still not normal (can't swallow pills for example). I so hear you when you write that you feel the band "squeezing the daylights out of you." I felt like I was being slowly strangled from the inside. I am so glad to have the band out, although also so disappointed that I lost only 20 pounds, and that from not being able to do anything but Clear Liquids for days. For me, it's been a lesson that there are worse things than being overweight, but then I was fortunate enough to be on the low-end of the banding world to begin with. Now back to dealing with hunger when trying to eat 1200 no-carb calories a day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
