I Need A Buddy...newly Banded In Oregon

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I was just banded on 4/16 and would love to have some more people who have been through this process for support. I am 28, Mom of a 3.5 year old, and married for almost 3 years. I am also on myfitnesspal if you want to add me. Thanks!

Yeah, I've been truly fortunate in that I was back to normal a couple days after surgery. Who did you go through? How has it been so far?

I went to Oregon Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Patterson. So far pretty well. I have a week left on the liquids stage. I am down another 10 lbs since surgery last Monday which is exciting My heaviest was 320 when I started this process last November, so I am glad to be back in the 200's now. I like your blog too! I had no idea about the effects on birth control.

great loss so far! I actually got banded at Legacy Weight management institute, which is the door down the hall from Dr. Patterson. I think we are probably on the same post-op as well. Liquids couldn't end fast enough for me :)

Hi Nikki!

My surgery actually went wonderfully! I showed up at Good Sam at 5:30am and was in surgery by 7am. I was definitely a little nervous, but my mom and fiance both came with me so they kept me busy and talking until I was given the beginning anesthesia meds, which made any worry go away :)

Surgery took around 45 minutes and I seem to recall waking up in recovery at almost 9am. I was then taken to the short stay wing and was able to get out of bed and walk around, as well as sip Water. I brought a small pillow pet with me to hold against my stomach if I was sore- it helped a lot!

I was discharged around 11:30am and went home to sleep. I slept a lot the first day because of anesthesia, but did get up and walk around whenever I woke up. I took my pain meds on schedule for the first three days and did not wait til I felt pain. The incisions ached and it was hard getting in/out of bed the first few days just because of the pulling.

I had a really good recovery with minimal down time. I cannot stress the importance of a small firm pillow to hold against your stomach when walking, getting up/down, riding in a car, or rolling over. It really was helpful!

I'm in Beaverton too! YAY@locals! We should all meet up. I could definitely use some friends offline that know what I'm talking about. :)

Also, I have a whole container of Body Fortress powder (chocolate) that I brought for pre-op, but I hated it. If anyone wants it, let me know. :) It's just collecting dust in my pantry. Haha

Same thing happened to me... Still have only found powders and pre-made that I tolerate but don't like.

I would love to meet up with Oregon people :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
