Post Op Day 6...concerns And Ideas

Recommended Posts

I got banded on April 16th. To be honest I don't think I was prepared enough for my recovery. I had a rough few days. Thank god that I had the whole week off...I am just hoping that I am fine for Monday. My recovery finally turned around when I met some great support people on this forum. Thank god for the suggestions I got...here they are (maybe they will help you):

1. GNC Lean shakes...they were the only shakes that agreed with me and that I could keep down. You need the Protein to keep up your energy.

2. sugar free ice pops!!! They were very soothing especially with the sore throat after surgery.

3. I could not handle the broth so I used the light progresso Soups and drained all the veggies and chicken out of them and enjoyed the chicken stock.

4. At night I had a low grade fever...not sure why but it was annoying.

5. If you are given pain medication it can be very tough on your stomach so you may be better off with extra strength Tylenol.

I hope this may help someone else out there. It is going to be a long journey for me but hopefully I am past the worse part of it. I have lost 8 pounds since my surgery.

Great post! I had my surgery on April 17th and I have also had a rough few days. I feel much better today, but I am so tired. I'm going to try some of the GNC shakes. Thanks again.

You have been through the worst part, the surgery.I went back to work 3 weeks after surgery only because I do heavy lifting at my job. I had my surgery February 10, 2012. I have lost 27 pounds.Happy with the loss but for the last 2 weeks I have been at a standstill. I am thinking this is to be expected. I have had my second fill this week, Don't worry about the fills they are nothing.I use the Unjury. I also have tried kellogs Protein Shakes, The french vanilla is good. What I didn't expect to find hard is after the fill going back to stage 2 for 2 days and then 3 etc. After you go onto food it is hard to go back to only liquids.Like I said I didn't expect it. Another thing I found hard was I had 2 birthday parties to go to, one for my great nephew and then my grandson. Each party consisted of cake ice cream and pizza. It was rough but I got through it. I brought my own stuff. tuna, veggie and yogurt and s,f. pudding. Then the going away for my nieces husband in the service, was being sent out. Now you want to talk about food everywhere from chip Snacks and dips to hot dog and hamburgs or sausage a table of liquor of your choice, Desserts gallore. Now THIS was tough. Everywhere I looked was food,Here again I brought my own stuff and I did get through it. This was the only time I usually would have let loose and had things I normally wouldn't at home. But the main thing Is I got through it.Just telling you about this because this is a fact of life that we have to face.Wanted to prepare you for it.

I also like the s,f, ice pops. I really like (when you get further into it) the melba toast with cottage cheese on it.Not everyone likes cottage cheese. Be careful though to chew the melba toast good. good luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
