Newbie Question -- Slightly Nauseous, Burping, Heartburn?

Recommended Posts

I'm day 3 post-op. Am I just full? Is this gas?

I feel slightly nauseous. I keep having these hard, painful burps. And it feels sort of uncomfortable, like heartburn but not quite, just above my diaphragm...

WTH is going on?? I was totally fine 5 minutes ago, and I haven't had anything to drink for about 1/2 hour. Last thing I drank was a mug of senna tea (for the constipation). I started drinking about an hour ago and it took me about 1/2 hour to finish...

Is this normal? Is this what being over-full feels like?

yech!

It sounds like you are having gas pressing on your diaphragm, which is normal and will pass. The only way to ease the gas is moving/walking. A common misconception is that Gas-X will help with the gas pumped in during surgery. This isn't true because the gas isn't in your digestive system, it's in your abdominal cavity. If you're having indigestion or digestive gas pains it'll help only. Walk as much and often as you can to help your body reabsorb it faster.

As for the nausea, as odd as it sounds you may want to drink some tea or something else soothing. For some reason, it's more likely on an empty stomach.

Thanks so much!!! I do feel like I'm more likely to be empty than full, and I haven't walked much this afternoon. Appreciate your response. It's VERY weird not knowing what's going on with my body!!!

I think I would be a bit scared of the senna tea. I would be looking for something more gentle.

I had nausea in the days postop , I think it was due to all those horrible , Protein shakes and juice etc. Everything was so sweet. I think my body was craving something that tasted like proper food as when my Dr said I would be Ok to start eating Soup (various types of homemade veggie + pulses for protein) it went away.

Well, I'll tell you, the 1 cup of senna tea I drank 4 hours ago, it did NOTHING. :-)

Sasha, I also had surgery Wednesday and I cannot believe how much burping is going on. They require careful concentration, and... Finesse? My pre surgical self occasionally found it quite amusing to burp as loudly and obnoxiously as possible. My mom would say I was good at it, shamefully. I doubt I'll ever be doing that again.

Anyway, I'm not passing the gas down below regularly yet so I'm guessing that's why mine is coming out up top? And I know, walk walk walk. I have two babies, I'm up moving a lot.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
