I agree with Betty. If you normally eat early, then try a protien shake - no solids.

Oh and just as a FYI: remember after the fill, liquids for the first 24 hours!

Good luck!

my dodctor never said to eat or not to eat. but, if you must eat, eat yogurt, or something that will empty quickly from your stomach. because, they need to fill and empty while taking pictures... don't eat to close to appointment either.. hope it helps.

I wondered about this myself... good question.

My doc had me on Clear Liquids for ..... get this crap... 5 days after my first fill. Normally its 2 days but I think he didn't want any trouble during the weekend so he extended it a few extra days, nice eh~ . Let me just say I ate on the 3rd day (mushies). But this got me thinking that maybe I should have eaten before the fill so I wouldn't go thru the day with a growling belly.

I was told not to eat or drink anything two hours before. Then after I had my fill I was told I could only have liquids for three days and mushies for another three. I hope this helps.

It's amazing the various time spans of the liquids after the fill. My doctor has me do liquids 24 hours after, unless it's an unfill, , then he says I can eat whenever I want.:hungry:

Man, doctors are so different in their protocols!

Okay, we almost never have fills under the flouro, our fill nurses are that good. I can't speak for most people, but the sting from the needle is hardly even noticable.

We are told to "take it easy" for the rest of the day after our fills, we don't have to do days of liquids or mushies.

And I would suggest eating something an hour or so before you fill.

Mine is 3 days liquids and 3 days mushies after! Which actually I'm glad for, because I always hear people on here complaining how they are too tight right after a fill and they try to eat and then have to go a few days on mushies anyways. I tried to eat after one of my fills and had some serious pain from getting stuck, I stick to what my doc says now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
