Question About My Teeth

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Monday (April 16th) and I'm on a clear liquid diet until this coming up Monday. All I have had is Clear Liquids but I'm getting a build up on my teeth that I've never gotten before. I've been brushing my teeth more than normal just to get the build up off because I hate the feel. What's causing this?

I don't know what causes it but the whole time I was on liquids only I felt like my teeth had wool sweaters on! I started soft foods this week and no more sweaters. Try gargling with Listerine it seemed to help me.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only experiencing it. I was wondering what was going on, it's driving me crazy! I'll try the Listerine, Thanks for the reply!

Never got the build up on my teeth, but I had a weird build up in my tongue. Someone said it was from the Protein Shakes or liquid diet. I did some research and when your intestines don't have to go through peristalsis like they should bacteria and normal flora come up and gather in your mouth.

I too have had the halitosis at times and the coating on the tongue. It happens if i drink more then 2 shakes a day.

I've also had a change with cavities. I spent 34 years without one cavity and then the last two years 5 cavities have popped up. Small but needed repair. Wondered if diet change made the difference as at times I wasn't eating enough Protein and also for a while I was PBing, sliming and occasionally vomiting. Even talked to the dentist about the correlation and he just said to make sure to brush after an episode. Didn't know of any specific thing from the band that would cause cavities specifically. Could be my age, could be the fact that all my sealants from childhood were gone, the surgery, diet, or a combination of It all. Who knows. Just something I think about. Anyone else have an issue with this?

The coated feeling on your teeth and tongue and the bad breath can all be caused by ketosis. The cavities can be caused by vomiting. Even what bandsters call Pbing can be very acidic and cause decay. You should not brush after vomiting because the abrasion only makes it worse. What you should do first is rinse with baking soda and Water to reduce the acid attack on your teeth. Then you should learn how to avoid vomiting (and Pbing) quickly so you can avoid drilling & filling with the dentist. Even if you do not get decay quickly, it can make weak spots on your teeth that will decay in the future.
