Well my surgery is coming up May 1st to be exact and im starting to have mixed felling and cold feet. Im on the liquid portion of the pre op diet now and im having a bit of a strug;e but m sticking with it. But the factor of being on liquids for 5 weeks (2 wks before 3wks after) is getting to me. Thier is only so many ways that you can mix a protien shake. Not only that I am reading allot of stories on this sight from people that thier band is not working. This one girl has had it for 2 1/2 years and have only lost 50 pounds...I scared that im risking my life and it's a possiability that it's not worth it... I say risking my life because ANY surgery for me can be my last. I have been through allot over the last past 5 yrs and i just want something to come out right. Honestly im not that girl that want to loose a ton of weight, but i need it due to my health condition.. Maybe im just having cold feet.....

Those thoughts happen to most of us. I had a complete breakdown the day before my surgery. Almost called it off. I've only lost 5 lbs since surgery two weeks ago, but I'm hopeful the scale will start to drop soon. Either way, even if my band doesn't work well for me, at least I tried and gave it my all. If I stck to the plan I don't see how I can't lose weight. Just have to get the scale moving again. You can do this, cold feet are normal. I don't like operating from a place of fear, so make a decision that's best for you, but not because you are afraid.

Very well said summrsue! I lost about a lb a day until I started eating softy food, then I gained 4 lbs. It was hard but I also have to tell myself that I haven't had a fill yet. I know it's a personal decision but for me it was the right one. As far as reading all the failures, I choose to focus on the positive input and successes from SO many on this site. Yes, there are risks, yes I know it doesn't work for some but it WILL work for me. I decided that with as much certainty as getting banded.

As far as not eating for 2 wks after... it's really not that bad. Honestly, the first week or so, I didn't want to eat. Now, I eat very little and I'm content. NOT starving.

Again it's a personal decision but know that cold feet are normal.

....Theres no doubt that its a big decision, and not to be taken lightly. All surgery has its risks. you say that you have health issues, due to being over weight?? If you do have, then, like me, it will help you to make up your mind . I knew that if i didnt have it then i was cutting off many years of my life. it was that simple. I dont like surgery either... ive had many, but this time i know that i stand my best chance ever to claw back the years that bad health was threatening to take away from me. ive been banded now for a month.

Totally understand the cold feet. I have not started on my preop diet yet. lucky i just have to do one week of it. I start wen. Yes i am even though in the healthfield is a bit scared but I also know that i have tried everything and nothing has worked for me This is my chance to get ME back. I am as excited as i am scared. Everyone has to make their own decision but think of this as like a pregnancy everyone dont have the same results and everyone has a horror story of so and so etc... but yet it dont stop us from taking the chance to have a child. This is to me like that.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
