Liquid Tylenol/over The Counter Pain Reliever

Recommended Posts

I've got a question that i wanted to ask before I forgot. My surgery is next thurs (the 26th) and I know that I'll be nervous/anxious and will forget to ask the dr. I know that I can turn to y'all and get the answer.

I have read that after surgery I should have liquid tylenol--great--I a 3 year old so we have plenty of that. My questions are:

How about liquid Ibuprofen--is that ok?

What is the doseage for an adult? I looked on the package and it only went up to a 94 pound child. I am far from 94 pounds--yet I don't want to not take enought?

Thanks everyone. As it gets closer I may have a few more of these questions that I want to ask before I forget. :)

I use children's liquid advil all the time. I believe its 100mgs per teaspoon. So for an adult 400mgs is like 2 regular Advil. So...4tsps.

I've been using liquid ibprofen (generic) 6tsp in between liquid hyrdocodone.

I think the purpose of the ibprofen is to reduce swelling.

lol I take 600mgs so sometimes it feels like a whole bottle. I KNOW someone is gonna post that you should never take Advil because its an NSAID and not good for you but use your own judgement. Advil in moderation and at the appropriate dosage is no worse for you than Tylenol.

My doctor didn't have a problem with Advil. Tylenol doesn't do anything for my typically so I don't use it ever.

They make liquid tylenol for adults...it does not taste that bad and you do not have to take what seems like a whole bottle of the children's stuff. Good luck to you next week!!!

My dr does not allow any NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen) ever- they are associated with ulcers, and band failure. I have been getting the adult dosage liquid Tylenol at cvs.

Good luck!!

weight at start of pre surgery diet - 304/current weight 293/surgery scheduled for April 10!

They pulled it from Wal-Mart but they still have it at CVS but its the generic brand. I can't tell the difference.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
