Throwing Up After I Eat And Not Being Able To Drink Liquids In The Morning

Recommended Posts

I am 11 months out from surgery and the food that I eat feels like it is getting stuck. I have to burp a lot while I am eating and have to vomit at least once a day. In the morning when I wake up it is very hard to just drink Water and my Protein Shake. I have a 14cc band and noticed these complications getting worse after I had a fill that brought me to about 7.5cc. I also have been drinking alcohol lately after not doing so for 8 months and I have also been drinking diet soda. Could my band have slipped or am I getting acid reflux because of the alcohol and carbonated beverages. Prior to getting my latest fill, I could eat anything and a lot of it and now I can't. I have lost a little over 100lbs. and I hope my band didn't slip.

Hello! If you band had slipped then more than likely you would be in some serious pain! I have had to play a lot with my fills (Take 1cc out, add 1cc etc.) as of lately and it's just something that comes with the band. In the morning, you should try drinking a warm/hot beverage like green tea. It helps to relax the smooth muscle (your esophagus) and open you up a bit. I usually have about 2 in the morning and I find that it helps me. As far as the alcohol and carbonated beverages go, I already have Acid Reflux problems and both aggravate it. My suggestion would be to cut down on both. If that doesn't help, you band may just be too tight and you might have to have 1cc or 1/2cc taken out to fix the problem... hope this helped!

Thank you so much! I will try the warm tea tomorrow morning and will stay away from diet sodas and beer. I think you are absolutely right because when I was at 7cc I had no complications at all but when I went to just 7.5cc then the problems started coming. Thank you again!

The carbination could be a problem, but you do sound too tight! If that keeps up, you will <likelY, get a slip. There is no pain involved in a slip. You get symptoms simalur to what you are experiencing. I have had 2 slips, one where it repaired itself, and the ltest where the surgoen had to repair it. Be careful. You too coudl/can get a slip! Good luck, Karen

Your weight loss is great. But who told you soda is permisable? It only makes yoiu burp more. It is also stretches out your pouch. Why not drink Water? It is the best for you and me and everyone else.

Good luck..I hope you do not have a slip. You might ask your doc and as him about the soda too.

I was told no sodas because it can cause erosion of the band. I just had a fill yesterday, now I am at 6cc in a 10cc band. So far so good, but then again I am only aloud liquiquids, so it's kinda hard to tell if the fill is working yet I guess. But I would def, stop the sodas and I was told alcohol can irritate the band for some people to. I am a wine drinker myself, but haven't had the nerve yet to have a glass since my surgery. Good luck to ya.

Cut the soda and alcohol for a week to eliminate that possibility. Smaller bites and lots and lots of chewing to avoid getting stuck. I'm on fill 5 and it's difficult to remember to slow down, take small bites and chew, chew, chew after years of scarfing down food. But when I follow the rules, I don't get stuck, don't burp(unless I eat too much) and don't throw up.

Your too tight (imo). Too tight leads to problems and could cause a slip. You should really discuss with your DR.

You sound too tight to me. Vomiting daily is NOT ok. If you went from 7cc to 7.5cc... Have the doctor remove .25cc. You are probably extremely close to your green zone where .25cc will make a huge difference.

Ok, no more soda for me! I did that warm tea in the morning and it made the world of difference. I think it's ok, I was just eating too fast. I slowed down when eating and it got better. Thanks for all the support and I honestly did not know soda was that bad for you. Funny thing is that I don't really like soda anyway. I was just drinking it because it's sweet. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
