magicfanpjc 8 Posted April 20, 2012 I had my surgery last Friday and I seemed to have recovered well. I went back to work on Tuesday, but yesterday, Wed, I had horrible intestinal issues. Couldn't stay out of the bathroom. I call my doc and they said to take Immodium and be sure to drink a lot to replace the loss. Today, I'm extremely gassy and in a lot of pain. This is actually intestinal gas, but nothing seems to be helping it. I think the turmoil from yesterday set me back. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice? gottobeme 81 Posted April 20, 2012 I also had surgery last Friday and had the problem in reverse, to some degree. I had taken some MOM on Monday (1/4 the normal dose) and after having a terrible time getting things moving Tuesday morning, the "Water works" started. It pretty much ran it's course in one day. After reading your post I'm not so sure it was the MOM that caused it. Considering it happened about the same time post op as mine I'm thinking it's pretty normal. honk 780 Posted April 20, 2012 I was in the bathroom my first night home. All Night! Luckily that was the end of it. Protein Shakes do make me gassy so if you are having a lot of shakes that might be causing your problems.
gottobeme 81 Posted April 20, 2012 Protein Shakes do make you gassy - I have been using them pre-op for about 6 months and have never been so gassy in my life!
NWgirl 574 Posted April 20, 2012 the bathroom issue happened to me about day 4/5 and I was literally running to the bathroom for a day. It was almost like the my intestines were waking back up. It was not pleasant but passed fairly soon.
magicfanpjc 8 Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks everyone. It's much better today. I'm not allowed to have shakes right now. Just Clear Liquids for me for another week...ugh. I'm down 23 lbs in three weeks though!
Jim1967 3,569 Posted April 20, 2012 Hi All,, I am post op day 4 and I still have major gas issues. I have not had any shoulder issues and all of it is lower belly and my bathroom visits are frequent and not pleasant. I spoke to the Nurse today and she suggests I try ammodium but if the problem still remains on Tuesday when I go in for a follow up they are going to send me out for lab work and make sure I do not have an infection. I was not happy to hear this. Day 1 and 2 I was OK. Day 3 was real bad and today not so bad. Kind of nervous something is going on....oh and they just put me back on shakes today so all I've had is liquid. Thoughts?

My pcp was surprised to here I had this problem and also suggested infection. I think I've narrowed down the source of my problem....sugar free Italian ice. Had it Tues when all this started, but didn't make the connection. Today, I was much better and had another. BAM! Same problem occurred. No more ice for me! Hope everything goes well for you

JaimeLou113 2 Posted April 21, 2012 I am 5 weeks out, and I have never been so gassy in my life. I have found that if I take 1 or 2 Ultra Gas-X soft gels when I go to bed, I am so much better. I was waking up so incredibly bloated, it was painful, and I would spend the first 3 hours of the day passing it. Started with the Gas-X, and it is so much better. I don't wake up bloated, and it seems to keep me from getting gassy throughout the day. Soft gels work better than the chewable tabs.
