Drinking After Surgery

Recommended Posts

This thought came after reading "drank to much". I understand beer is a no no, carbonation, calories etc....

What about liquor? What am I going to be able to drink socially after surgery?

I drink wine without any problem. You just have to watch those oh so empty calories!!

You can drink but just remember that not only is it full of empty calories but it will also hit you harder and faster. I have the occasional glass of wine but more than one and I feel drunk!

Yep, I drink frequently! Wine is great, hard liquors....as mentioned though they are empty calories so factor that in. Also, you may feel the effects sooner since you're eating a lot less. Cheers!!! (as I pour another glass of wine! ;) )

I make a margarita with lemonade crystal light and a shot of tequila with ice it does the trick and just sip on it.

I drink beer often. I have no problems with it but I count my calories. Having the surgery has not changed the way how fast alcohol affects me. I think it's different for everyone just make sure you account for your calories and take it slow when you have your first drink until you know how it will affect you. And also don't drink until you are fully healed (6-8 wks after surgery).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
