bandready 0 Posted April 18, 2012 I am a 39 yr. old female that is waiting anxiously to be banded. I had my first doctors visit on 4/12. I have not talked to my mother and siblings about my decision to be banded, because I am afraid of the negative feedback. I will be having my surgery (EDG) done on 4/25. My mom had only bad things to say when I first mentioned it to her, but I'm 5'8 310lbs with a 4 month old son and I need to be healthy for him . It's my life and I only live once... yellowrose88 43 Posted April 18, 2012 I told my mother and sisters after I was banded. At that point they couldn't say much. My sisters were excited for me but my mom was a little upset because I didn't tell her prior. Hope this helps and good luck.
Sal58 4 Posted April 18, 2012 I had my procedure done Sunday so recovering right now. Only my husband and cousin know...not ready to tell family and not sure I will. I don't think they will understand. Best of luck on your weight loss journey. I don't regret one minute of it.

jen_1381 446 Posted April 19, 2012 If you feel like you will need their support, then it might be best to muster up the courage and talk to them. Be open, honest, and just let them know the reasons why you're wanting surgery. If you have other support people, then I wouldn't worry about telling everyone. I just told my mom and sister last weekend, and I'm almost done with all of my pre-op work (and I talk to my sister almost daily). For me, it's a personal decision that I made for myself. It's my life, I only get to live it once, and my mind is made up!
