Sharp Pain On The Right Side (A Cramp)

Recommended Posts

Don't know what's going on but I have this cramp on my right side. It comes and goes, has anyone felt this before???? I don't want to call my doctor if it's not serious, but who knows. I was banded on March 19th 2012.

I was banded on the 20th. For a few days I had a sore area on my lower left abdominal area (not anywhere near my port or other incisions) that had me worried because it appeared 2-3 weeks after surgery. It went away and hasn't bothered me since.

I get the same thing from time to time but mine is on my left side. It feels like a runners cramp. I think mine comes when I eat a little too much.

Did you have a hiatal hernia repaired at the time of surgery? Many obese people have these hernias, where the stomach invades the chest cavity through the diaphragm. You may not have known you had one. It gets fixed during surgery, because they have to pull your stomach down to place the band. If you had a hernia, they tightened up your diaphragm, to prevent re-herniation. The tightened diaphragm will cause the lower rib cramping.

I was banded on April 11th, 2012. I have cheated, I was so hungry and ate some broccoli. I had so much pain but my doctor told me to walk. I felt better after walking for 20 minutes. This morning, I had some eggs, a slice of wheat bread and two slices of watermelon. About 30 minutes later, I started feeling a sharp pain on my left side. I went to the bathroom thinking that I would feel better, boy... the pain got so bad that I could not walk, breathe and talk. When I called the dr. he asked me to meet him immediately at the clinic to remove the fill. He told me that the bread did that. When he removed the fill, I felt better in 5 minutes and was able to walk and speak normal again. He will put the fill back again in one week. He told me to go back on the liquid diet for the next three weeks. I learned my lesson. I've never had so much pain in my life. I really thought that I was dying. So please stay away from bread, broccoli and anything too hard or too heavy to eat.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
