4 Years And Reflux...what To Do?

Recommended Posts

I had some reflux at night. ... would actually wake me up. My doc told me it's because I was eating too late at night.... I've changed that now.. and since haven't had any problems.

When is the reflux? Just at night? After meals? Both? Have you tried OTC remedies. Pepcid AC EZ chews help me.

Avoid caffeine, spicy food, citrus, and greasy foods. Don't eat in the 3 hours before bedtime. sleep with your head elevated slightly.

In the middle of the night I wake to choking on reflux. I have been taking OTC remedies and eating right, early and slepping almost sitting up. But havent been for a fill in quite a while. So think I will go in and see if that might help.

Don't think you need a fill. Just the oppossite, it's my understanding acid reflux comes from being too tight. I don't knowif that is the case with you, or if it's a problem you would have even if you didn't have a band. It is great you are going to go the your dr. Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like you might need a slight unfill. Even a small amount like .2cc can make a difference. Make an appointment and tell your doctor the issues you are having.

I totally agree with the others who suggested an unfill. So glad you are going in! I'm 3 1/2 years out, and had some reflux issues now and then during the last 6 months. Not eating late is a HUGE help to me in avoiding this. But, if you're not doing that, it sounds like you're probably too tight. I hope your doctor can get you sorted out with a quick visit!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
