It really depends on the level of movement in your job. Most doctors want you off at least till after your 1 week post op appointment. I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work doing computer work on Monday.

How long did you all take out from work and why

I had my surgery Friday afternoon, I'm going back to work tomorrow 7am. I still feel sore and bit of gas but I think getting back to my normal routine will get me out of this mental rut. The biggest thing I'm going to have to deal with I feel is my energy, seeing as I have 10 hours shifts at a fast pace imaging center. Ek.

Take as long as you feel your body needs.

I am taking a month off. I work a sometimes very physical job with 12 hour shifts, so I'll need to be back to 100% before I go back to work. Sometimes I need to lift things that weigh 75 pounds or more above my head.

I think you did the right thing. My job is not that hard it more laid back and plus we have medical staff on site. I'm thinking about getting band on Friday and then going to work on Monday but I'm playing it by hear.

If u sit in a chair all day I'd suggest a week. That position is gonna kill ur port site

I am an overnight stocker. They said 4 weeks bc the port is attached to the muscle. I need the time off to deal with the mental part of this surgery no one tells you about.

I just had my surgery the 16th. I am planning on going back on the 27th. My job is really physical, so I will wait another week to see how I feel. Luckily it's only a part time job.

Banded 4-2-12...I work retail, but it's fast paced retail. On my feet, bending, stretching, lifting, leaning, etc. At my weight (pre band 545lbs/post band 524lbs) it wasn't too bad, so I figured a week would be fine. I returned to work and they insisted on me doing light duty and I'm glad. A week later I tried to hit the sales floor and could only handle several hours before I couldn't handle it. My managers are awesome and have me on light duty until I feel healthy enough to hit the floor again. When I talked to my doctor's office, they said that ideally I would need 4 weeks off after surgery.

I haven't been banded yet but I will be out for 6 to 8 weeks my job has a 40 pound minimum lifting requirement I work with people so lifting someone is out of the question. I was told to come back when I'm ready. I'm going to use this time off to learn about the band and how it works with ME! As well as heal

At the time I had just finished a college program and was waiting to start my new job; I probably would have been off for 5 days (that's total including weekends; some others have had a worse recovery, though. And it depends on the activity level of your job; I'm sitting all day).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
